SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's soccer team opened their conference bout with 12th-ranked Swarthmore College with a bang on Wednesday afternoon as a fourth-minute tally by
Ava Prisco gave the Devils a 1-0 lead. However, the hosts collected the next three markers to claim a 3-1 win at Clothier Field.
First Half
- The Red and White took the early lead on a long-range effort from Prisco in the fourth, assisted by Anna Bitsko, after her initial shot hit the top woodwork.
- Then in the 18th-minute, Swarthmore drew level when Celia Kanellakos was able to beat DC goalie Pico Gray.
- Both teams exchanged multiple shots on target throughout the rest of the half, with goalkeepers Dahlia Bedward and Gray recording crucial saves to keep the score level.
Second Half
- Dickinson had an early chance to get the lead with just 1:40 gone, but Prisco was denied by Bedward.
- Unfortunately, that would allow the Garnet to eventually grab the advantage during the 51st as Charlotte Carleton and Nicole Jensen setup Ava Gizzie for the tally.
- Over the next ten minutes both Isabelle Bariso and Maddie Kraft-Williams were turned aside by Bedward to allow the Garnet to stay on top.
- After assisting on the first goal of the period, Carleton found the back of the net with 60:22 left for a 3-1 edge.
- Lila Brown was stopped, Katie Vassilakos went wide left and Kraft-Williams pinged the post in three minute span to keep the deficit at 3-1.
- The next six shots came from the hosts, but none of them called Gray into action.
- Bridget Merkel, Maddie St. Amand, Bitsko and Vassilakos each recorded a chance over the rest of the match, however, they could not hit the net.
