HAVERFORD, Pa. - First-year
Gillian Rosenstock netted her fifth of the season in the final minute of the first half and it would stand up to be the game-winner as the 13th-ranked Dickinson field hockey team took down the 19th-ranked Haverford College in a battle of two of the best in the Centennial Conference at Swan Field on Saturday afternoon.
First Quarter
- Dickinson had complete command of the game through the first six minutes as shots from Erin Liggio, Megan McClure, Natalie Slusser and Rosenstock forced Steph Ionescu into making two saves.
- The hosts opening chance of the match came in the tenth minute when off a corner Holly Vincent had her blast blocked down by the defense.
- The visitors earned two penalty corners over the final five minutes resulting in shots for Alexandra Hockwitt, Sophia Pereira and McClure. However, none of them were able to get by Ionescu as the period came to an end.
Second Quarter
- The opening five minutes went by without a shot as the two sides continued to play a tight defensive affair.
- It would be Haverford who got the first opportunity of the period with Erica Pardon slipping the ball wide of the target.
- That set the stage for the Devils to grab a goal with just 35-seconds remaining when a corner inserted by Rosenstock found Slusser who got it back to Rosenstock for the finish making it 1-0 heading to halftime.
Third Quarter
- Coming out of the break Haverford locked the Dickinson offense down as they were not able to record a shot in the period, while at the other end Taylor Morrow denied Abigail Trapp and Louisa Coughlin to keep it 1-0 with a period to go.
Fourth Quarter
- With four minutes off the clock a green card given to McClure put the Fords a player up. During that two minute window the hosts earned a pair of corners and only recorded one shot which came from Vincent.
- Haverford continued to put Dickinson under pressure getting five corners and tallying four shots which tasked Morrow into making two saves to preserve the 1-0 win.
