Dominant Second Half Powers No. 13 Devils Past Mules

CARLISLE, Pa. - The 13th-ranked Dickinson field hockey outshot the visiting Muhlenberg College 17-1 over the final 30 minutes and outscored the Mules 4-1 to turnaround a 1-0 halftime deficit into a 4-1 conference win on Wednesday afternoon at a blustry and chilly Biddle Field Complex.

First Quarter
  • Muhlenberg recorded the first chance just over four minutes in when a corner played in by Erin DiSandro came to Lily Botta who had her shot sent away by Taylor Morrow.
  • The rest of the period saw Dickinson earn two penalty corners and tally one shot off the stick of Gillian Rosenstock, but it was stopped by Brenna Fitzpatrick.
Second Quarter
  • The home side was on the attack early with shots from both Erin Liggio and Sophia Pereira being saved by Fitzpatrick within the first three minutes.
  • Unfortunately for the home side Muhlenberg made their only attempt of the frame matter as a corner inserted by Botta found Danielle Kapsak who connected with DiSandro for the finish in the 18th minute.
  • The Red and White tried to find an answer, but the trio of Natalie Slusser, Nicole Uebele and Pereira were all unable to solve Fitzpatrick as the game went to halftime.
Third Quarter
  • Two minutes in a corner from Rosenstock resulted in shots for Alexandra Hockwitt and Slusser forcing Fitzpatrick into one more stop.
  • Dickinson continued to pile on the chances with the group of Megan McClure, Liggio and Slusser tasking Fitzpatrick with recording another save during the rush.
  • Three minutes from time Fitzpatrick turned away the pair of Alex Hackett and Uebele to retain the 1-0 edge.
  • However, as the horn sounded to end the period a corner given to the Devils allowed for one untimed set piece which they took full advantage of as a corner inserted by Rosenstock came to Hockwitt who slipped a pass to Maggie Carson for a shot that evaded Fitzpatrick and tied the game heading to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
  • The pitch was strongly tilted the way of the Red and White early as they recorded three penalty corners and three shots within the opening five minutes, but were not able to put another one past Fitzpatrick.
  • Dickinson would take advantage of their fourth corner of the frame as off the insert a stroke was awarded to the hosts. Slusser as she has done all season stepped up to the spot and sent the ball past the keeper for a 2-1 lead.
  • However, Muhlenberg needed just two minutes to post a response with Abba Diglio stashing her chance beyond Morrow.
  • From that moment on it was all DC as despite three more saves by Fitzpatrick both Hackett and Rosenstock notched goals in the 58th and 60th respectively to secure the 4-2 win.
