Finkielstein's Winner Makes Sure Road to CC Title Runs Through Carlisle

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Senior Luke Finkielstein stuck a shot from just outside the 18-yardbox past the diving Ben Mulford with exactly seven minutes off the clock to give the 16th-ranked Dickinson men's soccer team just enough to edge out the host Muhlenberg College by a score of 1-0 on Friday night at Varsity Field. With the win the Red and White secured the top seed in next week's Centennial Conference tournament and now know that the path to the title runs through Miller Memorial Field.

First Half
  • The opening five minutes did not see a shot from either side as both teams were attempting to gain a foothold on the match.
  • Then, with 5:34 gone Ethan Jarden recorded the first chance unfortunately he went wide of the mark.
  • Dickinson found what amounted to be the match-winner with seven minutes exactly off the clock when the ball skipped out to Finkielstein a few yards outside the box and he hammered it into the bottom left corner for the 1-0 lead.
  • It took until the 23rd minute to see next shot of the contest when Nick Potter knocked aside the offering from Sebastian Tis.
  • Mulford was then called upon during the 29th and 33rd denying Nicholas Dwamena and Jeremy Sallade respectively.
  • The Mules had the final three opportunities of the period, but the shots from Chris Turnbull and Tis did not bother Potter as the horn sounded.
Second Half
  • Inside the first five minutes both teams had a chance with Elie Khalil being shutdown by Potter, while at the other end Rowan Jensen fired wide left of Mulford.
  • The quartet of Saul Iwowo, Charlie Roy, Jarden and Sallade all had cracks at extending the lead, but none of them were able to force a stop out of Mulford.
  • At the 69:34 mark, Timi Omoniwa finally asked another question of Mulford unfortunately he was up to the task.
  • Over the next ten minutes the home side tallied three of the ensuing four shots, fortunately for the Red and White not one of them bothered Potter to keep the score at 1-0.
  • The sides traded the remaining four attempts with DC getting offerings from Sachil Kenkre and Parker Kiey, but none of them required a stop from either Mulford or Potter closing out the 1-0 Devils win.
