#12 Devils Roll into Conference Tournament by Blanking Shorewomen

CARLISLE - The 12th-ranked Dickinson field hockey team used a stifling defensive effort on Saturday afternoon outshooting the visiting Washington College 11-1 (6-0 on target) en route to a convincing 3-0 conference win at the Biddle Field Complex. Prior to the game today Dickinson honored their six seniors playing in their final regular season game in Carlisle.

With the Devils win they gave themselves a chance to get a top two seed, but due to Franklin & Marshall's win over Swarthmore the Red and White have to settle for the number three seed.

First Quarter
  • Just over four minutes in it would be the visiting side who had the first chance of the game, but Samantha McMahon sent her offering wide of the cage guarded by Taylor Morrow.
  • The only other shot came four minutes later when Gillian Rosenstock was turned away by Charlotte Schurman.
Second Quarter
  • A minute in Maggie Carson would insert the Devils first penalty corner of the game, but Alexandra Hockwitt skipped her shot wide of goal.
  • However, at the 21:29 mark the home side was rewarded for their effort was Alex Hackett scrambled a loose ball beyond the reach of Schurman for the 1-0 lead.
  • The defenses did not allow another opportunity in the period as each side earned a corner, but neither resulted in a shot sending the game to halftime.
Third Quarter
  • The Red and White had three corners inside the first three minutes resulting in shots for both Erin Liggio and Nicole Uebele, unfortunately Schurman was up to the task.
  • Dickinson extended their advantage to 2-0 with 9:40 off the clock when a corner played in by Rosenstock found Sophia Pereira who put a perfect pass on the stick of Uebele for the finish.
  • Two minutes from time Hockwitt got a pair of looks at goal, but both of them were knocked down by the Shorewomen defense.
Fourth Quarter
  • Three minutes into the frame the Devils pushed the margin to 3-0 when Maggie Carson inserted the corner and ultimately forced the ball past Schurman.
  • The rest of the period saw DC earn two corners and record one shot, however they could not knock another one past Schurman as the game came to an end at 3-0.
