NEXT STOP LANCASTER! Third Seed Devils Hold Off Bears in CC First Round

CARLISLE, Pa. - Nicole Uebele and Ava Mikulski exchanged goals within the first ten minutes of action on Tuesday afternoon as the third-seeded Dickinson College entertained sixth seed Ursinus College in the first round of the Centennial Conference Tournament at the Biddle Field Complex. Things would stay that way into the fourth quarter when Erin Liggio found the back of the cage to secure the Red and White a 2-1 win and a berth in Thursday's Semifinal at second seed Franklin and Marshall College.

First Quarter
  • The first five minutes went by with neither side able to get much going offensively.
  • Then at the 5:32 mark Katie Studzinski recorded the opening chance of the game, but it was denied by DC goalie Taylor Morrow.
  • In the ninth minute, the Red Devils would take the lead as Gillian Rosenstock inserted a corner that made its way to Uebele who beat Adriana Palladinetti for the 1-0 advantage.
  • However, not even a minute later Kirsten Johnson sent in a corner to Ava Mikulski who lifted the ball over Morrow into the cage making it 1-1 after one.
Second Quarter
  • Ursinus had a chance to grab their first lead early in the frame as Mikulski slipped a shot past Morrow, fortunately, Alexandra Hockwitt was alert to sweep the ball off the line.
  • Dickinson then went on the attack using a four-minute stretch to earn three penalty corners resulting in shots from Megan McClure, Liggio, Pereira and Uebele which forced three stops from Palladinetti.
  • After the Bears were able to clear out of their defensive zone for a few moments they were put right back under duress with Palladinetti turning away McClure off a corner and Natalie Slusser on a penalty stroke to end the half.
Third Quarter
  • The Red Devils continued to carry the play to open the period with the duo of Pereira and Rosenstock asking questions of Palladinetti inside five minutes.
  • Ursinus was then able to flip the script of the home side recording four shots over the remainder of the quarter, but Morrow shut them all down to send the game to the fourth still looking for a winner.
Fourth Quarter
  • Two minutes was all it took for the home side to find what they were looking for as Slusser had a chance swept off the line by Lauren Sieczkowski, before Pereira recycled the ball of the left wing and fed Liggio for the finish past the keeper.
  • From there on Dickinson locked things down defensively not allowing another chance for Ursinus, while tasking Palladinetti into two more stops against McClure and Slusser.
