LANCASTER, Pa. - The Dickinson women's soccer team picked up six All-Centennial Conference recognitions on Thursday morning as the league office announced the All-Conference Teams. The Red and White earned two individual honors with senior defender,
Lila Brown garnering Defensive Player of the Year and First Team, while
Joelle Ma claimed both Rookie of the Year and a place on Second Team. Junior
Ava Prisco accompanied Brown on First Team with classmates
Norah Heacock and
Bridget Merkel grabbing Second Team spots. Senior keeper,
Katey Van Kirk was tabbed as the Devils All-Sportsmanship Team honoree.
Special Awards
Brown, a native of Washington, D.C., earned her third all-conference selection and second First Team pick after starting in all 21 matches for the Red and White totaling five goals and three helpers on 32 shots (16 on target). In the regular season finale at Muhlenberg she collected a goal and assist, before scoring twice in the Centennial Conference Tournament first round victory over Washington (Md.). At the other end of the pitch she was a key cog in a Devils defense that only allowed 16 goals on the campaign and became the first member of the Red and White to claim the Defensive Player of the Year honor.
Ma, the resident of Summit, New Jersey, made a huge statement in her first season with Dickinson appearing and starting all 21 fixtures for the Devils racking up six goals and a team-high eight assists to go along with 30 shots (14 on frame). Against Muhlenberg in the regular season finale she posted a season-high four helpers picking up one on every goal of the Devils 4-0 win. Then, in the Centennial Conference First Round versus Washington (Md.) she setup Brown for a pair of headed goals off of corner kicks as well as adding a 45-yard free kick banger. Ma became the second Red Devil to be named Rookie of the Year in the 13-year history of the award, joining current assistant coach
Meg Tate (2019) in that club.
First Team
Prisco, out of Warren, New Jersey, started all 21 games for the Red and White ending the year with conference-leading 11 goals with two assists on a team-high 69 shots (32 on goal). The first time All-Conference honoree had two matches where she picked up multiple goals posting a hat trick against Juniata on September 3rd and notching a brace versus Susquehanna at home on October 1st.
Second Team
Heacock, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, was tabbed as an All-Conference selection for the first time in her Dickinson career after starting all 21 matches on the backline recording three goals and two helpers thanks to 24 shots (13 on goal). At Muhlenberg on November 1st she posted three points courtesy of one goal and one assist in the 4-0 cleansheet over the Mules.
Merkel, the resident of Pittsford, New York, made 18 appearances, recording 16 starts for the Devils totaling three goals and four assists, while firing 20 shots (11 on goal). She had her biggest point output of the season on November 1st when she tallied two goals against Muhlenberg. She also racked up two helpers in the Devils victory on the road at Penn College of Technology on October 22nd.
All-Sportsmanship Team
Senior goalkeeper,
Katey Van Kirk, a native of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, was the Red and White's honoree for her contributions both on and off the pitch.
