CARLISLE, Pa. - Senior forward
Saul Iwowo netted goals in the 13th, 50th and 68th minutes, while
Darian Crim and
Jackson Wolf added a goal each in the second half as well to help the Dickinson men's soccer team post a convincing 5-0 win over the visiting North Carolina Wesleyan in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament at Miller Memorial Field on Saturday afternoon.
First Half
- The Battling Bishops posted the first shot of the match in the fifth minute as Tom Roantree pinged the crossbar just above Devils keeper Nick Potter.
- Then the Devils went on the attack over the next 15 minutes with Luke Finkielstein, Timi Omoniwa, Iwowo and Wolf all forcing saves out of Jacob Westermark. However, during that stretch the Devils did take a 1-0 lead when Ethan Jarden fed Iwowo for the finish.
- Dickinson continued to put all the pressure on the Bishops backline as chances came raining in from Johnny Diederich, Jeremy Sallade, Finkielstein and Omoniwa forcing Westermark into another stop as the period hit the final 15 minutes.
- Wesleyan went in search of an equalizer prior to the break, but Potter had the answer for both shots from Jaden Delos.
Second Half
- Four minutes into the frame the Red and White made it 2-0 when Sallade squared in a nice pass to Iwowo who sent the ball past Westermark.
- Ten minutes later the score went to 3-0 as a corner kick sent in by Sallade found Iwowo, but his attempt was saved by Westermark. However, the ensuing rebound was smashed home by Wolf for his first of the season.
- Iwowo had a crack at notching his hat trick in the 67th, but the ball hit the post. Fortunately, he did complete that feat two minutes later with an unassisted marker.
- Daan Post, Nicolas Sautua and Isaac Pagnoux all recorded shots trying to break the cleansheet, but none of them tested Potter.
- The Devils finished off the scoring with a flourish in the 85th as a failed clearance by the Bishops keeper fell right to the boot of Crim who walked the ball into an empty net for the 5-0 finish.
