ATLANTA, Ga. - Dickinson women's basketball junior guard
Clare Cronley posted a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds, while Georgia native
Lizzie McGrath netted a team-high 15. However, it would not be enough for the Red and White as the host Emory University picked up an 82-55 non-conference win inside the Woodruff Physical Education Center.
First Quarter
- Dickinson got out to an early 4-2 edge three and a half minutes in on buckets for Mia Chapman and Leah Dubin.
- Three balls by Riley Allen and Mia Strazza aided an 8-0 home push to make it 10-4 with 2:38 left.
- Two jumpers by McGrath coupled with a layup for Chapman pulled the visitors to within two at 12-10 after one.
Second Quarter
- A Chapman layup off a feed from Addison Cadwell along with a triple out of the hands of McGrath gave the Red and White a slim 15-14 edge with 1:22 gone.
- Emory rallied back with buckets for Caroline Connelly, Mary Mullinax and Tatum Olson giving the Eagles a three-point cushion at 20-17 at the 3:36 mark.
- Cadwell found Cronley for a three and Victoria Zerbe as well as Dubin chipped in some paint points to close the gap to just one 25-24.
- Unfortunately, for the Devils a foul shot by Allen kicked off a 9-0 charge over the final three minutes to bump the hosts ahead by ten (34-24) going to the break.
Third Quarter
- The Eagles continued their sprint to begin the half as they ripped off the first eight points to make it 42-24 with just under seven minutes to go.
- Four straight by Zerbe and a free throw for Chapman trimmed the margin to 44-29, before a layup put home by Alexandr Loucopoulos led to the home side getting nine of the next eleven extending the lead to 53-31 with 6:24 gone.
- Free throws for Emma Landes and McGrath could do little to cut into the deficit as the Devils went into the fourth down 62-34.
Fourth Quarter
- It would take nearly two minutes to see the first points of the period as consecutive buckets from Mullinax opened it up to 66-34.
- A triple knocked down by Cronley and a couple of layups for Esther Nlebemuo made the score 71-43 at the five minute mark.
- Christina Psarros converted an "and one" opportunity, before triples by Jessica Maina and McGrath closed the gap slightly (74-52).
- Later in the period Sophie Zirkin hit Lily Spanos with a pass for the layup plus-one to set the 82-55 result.
