LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Dickinson men's soccer team had to go the entire 110 minutes plus penalties on Sunday night in their NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament match with Emory University. Unfortunately, for the Red and White despite outshooting the Eagles six to zero in the 20 minutes of extra time, it would be Emory who escaped Shellenberger Field on the campus of the University of Lynchburg with a 0-0 draw advancing 4-3 on penalties. The Devils magical season ends with a record of 16-0-8, but keeps the undefeated season for the Devils and runs their streak to 24 straight unbeaten.

First Half
- Dickinson spent the opening five-plus minutes in the opponent's defensive half but could not record a shot toward Geoffrey Halpern's net.
- Emory was almost able to make their first chance of the match mean something as Adeyemi Oni broke up the left side, however his shot was scooped over the top of Nick Potter's net in the seventh minute.
- Over the ensuing twenty minutes the ball would "ping pong" between the 18-yard boxes, but neither side able to find a shot.
- The Eagles then began to tip the momentum in their favor as Ignacio Cubeddu notched a pair of shots forcing Potter into his first stop of the day in the 31st minute.
- Dickinson was kept under wraps the rest of the period as the Eagles defense did not allow the Red and White work the ball down the wings preventing all crosses and keeping the Devils without a shot over the opening 45.
Second Half
- It took Dickinson just two minutes to find their first shot of the match when Timi Omoniwa worked it down the right and crossed to Jeremy Sallade who missed the target. Nicholas Dwamena took a crack at it a minute later, unfortunately he went over the top of the net.
- Each team would try the long throw-in approach over the ensuing ten minutes, however, none of them resulted in a good look at frame until the 61st minute when Cubeddu was blocked down again by the DC backline.
- Four minutes later a long ball over the top of the Eagles defense dropped down to Saul Iwowo who found Ethan Jarden for a shot that was denied by Halpern.
- Things began to open up as a minute later Nick Carrano was shutdown by Potter to keep it scoreless.
- With 20 minutes remaining, a free kick swung in by Omoniwa bounced around the box ultimately coming back to him for a shot from 12 yards out which went right into the hands of Halpern.
- Dickinson finally earned their first corner of the match with 14:15 to go, but the ball sent into the box was smacked away by Halpern.
- Ten minutes from time a giveaway in the defensive half by Emory sent the Devils on the counter leading to chances from Westin Fryberger and Jeremy Sallade that were blocked, before Halpern turned away Jarden.
- Emory tallied the final shot of the frame as Oni was unable to reach Potter forcing bonus soccer.
Overtime
- The opening seven-plus minutes were controlled by Emory as they recorded six throw-ins, a corner and a free kick, fortunately, the Devils defense held firm not conceding a shot. Dickinson finally worked their way into the attack with a minute left, but a free kick and long Fryberger throw-in led to nothing forcing the second period.
- To start the next frame, Dickinson came out firing away as Nicholas Dwamena crossed the ball to Jarden who was stoned by Halpern. Then, Luke Finkielstein hit the right post from 30-yards away and Fryberger as well as Jarden were blocked by the backline all within the first two minutes. Jarden added one more chance with two minutes to play, but Halpern once again had the answer resulting in penalty kicks.
