LANCASTER, Pa. - Junior forward
Megan McClure tallied a goal in the third quarter and the seventh-ranked Dickinson defense put up a brick wall around goalie
Taylor Morrow as the third-seeded Red Devils notched a 1-0 win over the second seed Franklin and Marshall College in the Centennial Conference Semifinal at Tylus Field on Thursday night. With the win, Dickinson advances to Saturday's final at top seed Johns Hopkins.
First Quarter
- It would be the home side with the early attack as they earned two corners inside the first three minutes, but both offerings for Keira Boensch went wide of Talyor Morrow.
- F&M continued to press posting another corner in the fifth minute resulting in a chance for Ava Lofgren who stuck her shot off the crossbar.
- There would be just one other chance in the period when Nicole Uebele gained access into the circle, unfortunately her shot was knocked to the side by Meghan Dole with 7:51 gone.
Second Quarter
- Just over three minutes into the frame Dickinson recorded their first penalty corner of the match which saw the resulting shot from Alexandra Hockwitt blocked down after Gillian Rosenstock played the ball into the area.
- A few minutes later the Devils were back in the circle earning another corner leading to Erin Liggio getting a pair of shots away, but none of them tested Dole.
- Over the final eight minutes, it was all Dickinson as they tallied four corners and five shots thanks to Hockwitt, Liggio and Uebele. However, Dole was there to post three saves to keep it scoreless at the break.
Third Quarter
- The Red and White tipped the field in their favor early on as a corner played in by Rosenstock with two minutes off the clock found Liggio who connected with Megan McClure at the side of the cage for the finish past Dole (1-0).
- Dickinson had a great chance to add onto their lead as a yellow card issued to Megan Dadio put the Devils a player up at the 34:07 mark. However, it was the home side that was on the attack notching one corner and one shot that did not force Morrow into action.
- Five minutes from the end of the period the Red and White tasked Dole with making two more stops shutting down the duo of Hockwitt and Uebele leaving the guests on top by one heading to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
- The opening six-plus minutes saw both sides playing primarily in the middle of the pitch until the Diplomats finally gained the circle and earned a corner. Fortunately, the insert by Caitlin Hoover led to no shot.
- A yellow card issued to Natalie Slusser at the 55:41 mark put the home side a player up for the remainder of the game during that stretch F&M recorded four corners and seven shots, but Morrow racked up four stops to end the game.
