Devils Upended in Centennial Conference Final by Top Seeded Blue Jays

BALTIMORE - Senior goalie Taylor Morrow recorded ten saves on the day and junior Megan McClure picked up a fourth quarter goal, but it would not be enough as the third-seeded Dickinson field hockey team was tripped up by the top seed Johns Hopkins University 4-1 in the Centennial Conference Tournament Final at Homewood Field.

First Quarter
  • The opening five saw both teams struggling to find any offensive flow as the first shot did not come until the 5:24 mark when Megan Chang had her shot blocked by the defense. However, the richochet came right to Grace Waldeck who put the ball past Morrow for the 1-0 lead.
  • Hopkins then kept coming recording three penalty corners over the next four minutes resulting in three shots leading to a pair of Morrow saves.
  • Dickinson was awarded a corner with three minutes left as Gillian Rosenstock inserted the ball to Natalie Slusser for the shot, but it did not reach Aubrey Kilgore ending the frame.
Second Quarter
  • To begin the period Johns Hopkins continued their pattern of rotating goalies as Jessica Lapidus took over for Kilgore in cage.
  • She would not see a shot during the frame as the Jays defense prevented the Devils from gaining the offensive half.
  • At the other end of the pitch Morrow was called upon once shutting down Evie Hamm to keep it 1-0 at the break.
Third Quarter
  • Kilgore returned between the pipes coming out of the break and was called into action three minutes in as she denied Erin Liggio off a feed from Rosenstock after a corner.
  • The home side then went on the attack tallying five shots over the ensuing ten minutes leading to three additional stops by Morrow, but also one goal when Chang jammed home a pass from Sophia Albano taking a 2-0 advantage into the final 15 minutes.
Fourth Quarter
  • Four minutes into the frame Zoey Bennett connected with Hamm for the finish extending the margin to 3-0.
  • However, the Devils did not go down quiet as Rosenstock found McClure for a strike past Kilgore cutting it down to 3-1 still with ten minutes left.
  • A minute later Dickinson had a chance to make things incredibly interesting as a corner from Rosenstock linked up with McClure who had her chance turned aside by Kilgore.
  • Hopkins would take advantage of a late yellow card to notch five more shots causing four saves for Morrow, but also cashing in one last time thanks to Caeli Robinson as she set the 4-1 final.
