CARLISLE, Pa. - For the second time this season the Dickinson men's basketball team needed a last second bucket to secure a victory as sophomore
Cole Cosby finished a driving layup with 1.5 seconds left to help the Red and White snap their slide with a 61-59 Centennial Conference win over the visiting Muhlenberg College on Wednesday night at the Kline Center.
- Scoring was a little hard to come by early in the game as DC held a 7-2 edge with eight minutes gone on scores from Joey Dopirak, David Petrusev and Juan Ruiz.
- Four of the next six went to the guests thanks to Giovanni Rubino, but Dopirak and Petrusev responded with a 7-0 push to go ahead 16-6 at the 12:15 mark.
- The duo of Liam Gorman and Rubino helped the Mules cut it down to 16-11, before Isaiah Edmond, Brandon Wiercinski and Cosby each hit from downtown to regain the double-digit cushion at 25-15 with 4:02 left.
- After MC picked up seven of the ensuing ten, two points in the paint by Petrusev and a pair at the stripe for Ryan Leskauskas helped the Red and White to hold a 32-26 lead heading to the break.Â
- Dickinson came out strong as Dopirak, Edmond and Wiercinski organized a 7-2 spurt to open the gap out to 39-28 with 2:42 gone.
- Then, the Mules found their footing with two at the foul line by Drew Buck sending them on an 11-3 gallop over the next six minutes to get within three (42-39).
- Buckets for Bryce Donovan and Dopirak left the margin at five (46-41), before nine straight by the visitors bumped them ahead 50-46 with 6:35 to play.
- The Devils came back with a vengeance though as baskets put in by Cosby, Dopirak and Edmond aided a 9-2 run making it 55-52 home team inside of three minutes left.
- Arinze Achufusi converted a layup and Rubino picked up an "old-fashioned" three-point play to knot the score at 57-57 with just 40-seconds to play.
