SELINSGROVE, Pa. - First-Year sprinter
Franklyn Akabi-During broke the Dickinson College indoor record for the 200m and multiple other Red Devil athletes secured Top-10 places as the Red and White had a stellar showing at the SU Invite hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday afternoon.
Sprints
Akabi-During began the day strong by winning the 60m with a time 6.96, while
Darian Crim grabbed seventh at 7.17.
William O'Connor and
Matthew Greenley nabbed 22nd (7.34) and 47th (7.72).Â
The record breaking moment for Akabi-During came in 200m when he hit the line at 22.23 to eclipse the previous DC mark of 22.28 set by Aaron Pannell back on February 1st, 2014. He was joined in the event by O'Connor (13th - 23.77),
Ian Gormley (25th - 24.28), Greenley (52nd - 25.34) and
Sean Harris (56th - 25.72).
A trio Devils earned Top-10 slots for the 400m as
Trevor Richwine claimed another victory for the Devils by hitting the stripe in 51.11, followed by Crim in fourth (51.47) and Gormley nabbing tenth (52.77). The group of
Matthew Gareau,
Benjamin Dench and Harris took up spots 19th (54.05), 29th (55.30) and 37th (56.28).
Distance
The Red and White collected six of the Top-10 places for the 800m as
Nolan Meincke rounded out the podium with a time of 1:58.03, followed by
Jeremy Sallade (4th - 1:58.67),
James Masterson (5th - 1:59.22),
Atticus Fair (7th - 2:00.96),
Nathan Caldwell (8th - 2:01.95) and
Benjamin Moseman (10th - 2:02.57).
Amos Liles (13th - 2:05.67),
Evan Feldman (23rd - 2:08.74),
Tyler Erdmann (32nd - 2:11.93) and
Max Collins (39th - 2:13.53) all competed in the race as well.
The Top-5 places in the mile run was peppered with Devils with Meincke winning the race at 4:22.54 with Caldwell a few seconds behind him to claim second (4:26.36). The duo of Moseman and
Alex Hansen took up slots four (4:29.73) and five (4:29.92).
Travis Knaggs landed inside the Top-20 grabbing 16th (4:45.76), followed by
Matthew Colden in 22nd (4:50.48) and Erdmann three places later (25th - 4:53.32).Â
It was another Dickinson triumph during the 3000m as
Luke Knestout clocked in at 9:02.52 to nab the win, while Eddie Liszka (5th - 9:10.34), Hansen (8th - 9:20.37) and
Alexander Kane (9th - 9:20.85) joined him in the Top-10.
William Kane just missed joining the group placing 11th with a 9:24.08. Joel Yetzbacher was the final DC athlete to do battle hitting the line at 10:16.61 for 24th.
The trio of
Avi Ghorai,
Mason Macek and Fair all earned Top-10 places for the 5000m claiming 5th (15:57.43), 9th (16:16.76) and 10th (16:23.58) respectively.
Relays
Dickinson sent four teams out for the 4x400m with the team of Akabi-During, Crim, Gormley and Richwine taking first with a 3:25.40. The group of Collins, Erdmann, Harris and Knaggs secured sixth thanks to a 3:32.42, while Caldwell, Feldman, Gareau and Moseman locked up eighth (3:33.55). The remaining DC crew with Liles, Masterson, Meincke and Sallade gave it their best finishing 17th at 3:52.15.
Field
The weight throw saw
Oliver Stroka just miss the podium locking up fourth with a toss of 14.83m.
At the jump pit,
Ayman Arkoukou hit the sand at 5.63m to earn 21st for the long jump, before grabbing 15th in the triple jump with a mark of 11.29m. Â
Next on the Track
The Red Devils return to action next Friday when they head right back to Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania to compete in the Susquehanna University Tune-Up starting at 12:30pm.
