Devils Drop Regular Season Finale to Blue Jays in Charm City

BALTIMORE - The Dickinson men's basketball team got 16 points each from seniors David Petrusev and Brandon Wiercinski, but it would not be enough on the day as the host Johns Hopkins University collected a 91-61 Centennial Conference win at Goldfarb Gymnasium. Template - 1st Half
  • Dickinson opened the game well with a three from Brandon Wiercinski and layup by Cole Cosby making it 5-2, before the home side tallied the next five to claim a 7-5 edge with four minutes gone leading to a DC timeout.
  • The Jays used the next two minutes to get a pair of triples by Jeb Williams to extend their advantage to 13-5.
  • A long-range effort for Ryan Leskauskas slowed the charge for a moment, but bombs by Logan Feller and Luke Thorburn pushed the lead to 22-10 at the halfway mark.
  • The Red and White slowly began to chip away as buckets put home by Isaiah Edmond, David Petrusev and Wiercinski cut it down to 24-18, but Wyatt Eglinton Manner hit from the far corner to make it 27-18 with 14:34 off the clock.
  • Dickinson continued to battle with scores from Luiz Ruiz, Matt Smith and Edmond trimming the gap to 33-27 at the under three minute mark.
  • However, Hopkins ended the frame on a 7-3 sprint to carry a 40-30 edge to the locker room.

  • Jumpers for Juan Ruiz and Wiercinski attempted to get Dickinson back in the game early in the frame, but buckets from Brian Johansson and Williams kept JHU up 46-34 with three minutes gone.
  • A layup for Edmond did little to cut into the deficit as Neill Dickey, Manner and Williams helped the Jays to stretch the gap to 15 (51-36) with 14:11 left.
  • Seven consecutive points by Petrusev along with a triple from Wiercinski pulled DC within 54-46 at the 8:09 mark.
  • Two Joey Dopirak foul shots accounted for the lone Devils points during a 9-2 flight for the home side to open up a 63-48 advantage with 11:45 gone.
  • Hopkins continued to rain down the triples with Feller, Johansson and Thorburn each hitting from deep while, foul shots from Cosby and Petrusev made it 72-55.
  • The Ruiz brothers and Petrusev would account for the rest of the Devils points as the hosts ended on a 19-6 run to close out the 91-61 final.
