CARLISLE,, Pa. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team used a three-goal run in the third quarter to turnaround a 5-4 halftime deficit into a hard-fought 9-8 non-conference win over the the 19th-ranked Big Red of Denison University on Sunday afternoon at Biddle Field.
- The visitors needed just 49-seconds to take the lead with Bridget Sheehy finding Mary Martinson.
- Dickinson recorded the following six shots with Abby Geary and Delaney Herbert forcing stops out of Julianne Henigan, while Sage Whitesite missed the mark with her chances keeping it 0-0 with seven minutes gone.
- Whiteside finally found paydirt with 8:45 gone, but Denison then responded with a three-goal run to open up a 4-1 cushion with less than five to play.
- The Red and White would answer back with tallies from Bella Guckes (Grace Kelly assist) and Geary (Eva Gardner assist) to make it 4-3 after one.
- The first four-plus minutes saw the two sides combine for four giveaways, before the visitors tallied three straight shots leading to one save from Sierra McLaughlin.
- Dickinson then found some offensive footing recording their own three shots with Henigan notching one stop against Kelly, prior to Carson Cerow tying the game on a free-position marker.
- However, Denison had a response with Sheehy connecting with Anna DeVuono to reclaim the lead at 5-4 with 6:38 left.
- Each keeper was called upon one more time in the period as Henigan shutdown Herbert, while McLaughlin denied Caroline Brooks.
- The keepers were on full display early in the frame as new DC netminder Peyton VanDorpe tallied one stop, while at the other end Henigan had the answer for Marnie Todd, Whitside, Guckes and Herbert.
- Dickinson would draw level at the 7:47 mark when Jenna Nowland made a nice dodge from goal-line extended and slipped the ball past Henigan.
- Two minutes later Faith Parker knocked the ball away from Sydney Lavin allowing Geary to track down the rock and link up with Cerow for her second of the day and a 6-5 edge.
- Henigan continued to be put under pressure as she made two more saves, before Guckes broke up a Denison clearing attempt leading to her setting up Geary for a 7-5 lead entering the fourth.
- The visitors used the first six minutes to draw level thanks to markers for MK Barnhart and Maddie Chase.
- They immediately tried to reclaim the lead, but Martinson was stopped by VanDorpe, which sent DC the other way leading to Kelly stashing one to the back of the net.
- Denison won the ensuing draw and instantly tied the game up through DeVuono with 6:24 remaining.
- With exactly two minutes left, a yellow card to Addie Clift led to DC going on a power play and eventually finding the game winner thanks to Herbert at the 14:15 mark.
