CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's outdoor track and field team got their outdoor season off to great start on Sunday by besting a pair of Centennial Conference foes in Franklin & Marshall College and Gettysburg College to win the Little Three Championship in front of the home crowd at Biddle Field.
Sprints
The 100m saw the duo of
William O'Connor and
Matthew Greenley take to the track and claim fourth (11.59) and seventh (12.27) respectively. When hurdles were placed at 110m Brendan Regan finished off the podium with a 17.95, followed by
Josh Penny at 18.73 (4th).
Franklyn Akabi-During claimed a victory for the Devils during the 200m by crossing the stripe in 21.97, while O'Connor nabbed fourth at 23.47.
Sean Harris and
Tim Gross also competed taking ninth (25.18) and tenth (25.33).
Two members of the Red and White found the podium for the 400m as
Darian Crim set a new personal best time of 49.51 for the win, followed by
Ian Gormley in third thanks to a 51.07.
Sean Harris clocked in at 54.87 (6th) and Goss hit the stripe right behind him in seventh (55.65). With hurdles at the same distance
Nathan Caldwell claimed second with a PR time of 1:01.20 to hold off teammate
Benjamin Dench with his 1:05.09.
Distance
The Rob Jansen 800m was where
Trevor Richwine laid down a new Biddle Field best time of 1:52.82, followed closely in second by
Jeremy Sallade (1:56.29). The trio of
Tyler Erdmann (7th - 2:08.52),
Max Collins (8th - 2:15.09) and
Jack Solovey (9th - 2:20.77) all competed in the event as well.
A large group of Devils went to work in the 1500m as the duo of
Nolan Meincke and
Benjamin Moseman occupied first (4:06.83) and third (4:11.63). The pair was joined in the Top-10 by
Matthew Dietrick (6th - 4:20.71), Erdmann (8th - 4:26.88),
Amos Liles (9th - 4:28.46) and
Evan Feldman (10th - 4:39.26).
Matthew Colden,
Andrew Edwards and Solovey all were involved in well taking up 12th (4:43.91), 13th (4:47.02) and 16th (4:52.68).Â
It was another Dickinson triumph during the 3000m steeplechase with Caldwell collection the win at 9:52.98, followed right behind by Fair with a 9:53.03.
William Kane just missed the podium nabbing fourth by hitting the line in 10:31.79.
The Red and White would go "one-two" for the 5000m as
Brock Overlander posting a new Biddle Field record of 15:00.27, which was also a new personal best.
Luke Knestout accompanied him on the podium by clocking in at 15:17.45, while
Mason Macek fell just short of making it a total Devil Top-3 claiming fourth in 15:35.62.
Avi Ghorai (15:51.98), Dietrick (16:02.31) and
Edward Liszka (16:10.53) ran together during the race grabbing spots six through eight. Joel Yetzbacher finished off the competing DC athletes with an 18:39.56 (13th).
Relays
The Dickinson unit of Akabi-During, Crim, Gormley and O'Connor picked up another DC victory during the 4x100m by stopping the timer in 42.61.Â
Crim, Gormley, Richwine and Sallade were one of two DC teams in the 4x400m earning the win and setting a new Biddle record at 3:23.74, while Dench, Gross, Harris and Penny seized fourth (3:43.67).
Fair, Liles, Meincke and Moseman made it a perfect run for the Red and White in the relays by winning the 4x800m at 8:15.17. Colden, Collins, Feldman and Hansen claimed fourth (8:57.41), followed by Edwards, Erdmann, Kane and Solovey in fifth (9:24.20).
Field
At the throwing area,
Oliver Stroka and
Jason Hollinger grabbed fifth (33.87m) and tenth (15.95m) in discus. Stoka was strong during the hammer nabbing second in the event with a mark of 50.68m. Dench also gave it a shot rounding out the field with a toss of 12.58m. Two members of the Red and White took their turn in the javelin as
Damon Buchanan and Harris finished second (49.84m) and eighth (27.43m) respectively. The final throwing event would be the shot put and that was where Sroka and Hollinger earned seventh (10.20m) and eighth (7.34m).
The duo of Greenley and Penny went to work in the pole vault taking fifth (2.95m) and sixth (2.50m) respectively.
At the jumping area,
Kieran Santos paced the field for the high jump by clearing 1.84m, followed by Penny in sixth (1.54m) and Richwine (7th - 1.49m). Two different Devils competed in the long jump with Sallade taking second on the podium at 5.65m, while
Ayman Arkoukou grabbed sixth (5.47m). Arkoukou returned to action during the triple jump earning fourth by dropping in at 11.10m to barely edge out Feldman in fifth (11.09m).
Next on the Track
The Red Devils return to action next Friday and Saturday when they head back to Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania to compete in the Jim Taylor Invite hosted by Susquehanna University. The action begins at 4pm on Friday, before resuming at 10am Saturday.
