CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team hung around early on Wednesday afternoon against the visiting ninth-ranked York College of Pennsylvania Spartans as the Red and White were tied at 3-3 through 15 minutes. However, after that the guests took command scoring eight of the next nine to post an 11-6 non-conference win at Biddle Field.
- The opening shot of the game came two minutes into the contest when Logan Ward sent an offering past the reach of goalie Peyton VanDorpe.
- Dickinson would then respond by claiming the ensuing draw control thanks to Sage Whiteside and notch three straight shots from Faith Parker with Bella Garabo getting to one, before another opportunity slipped past her with just about five minutes gone.
- Following a York turnover, Crawford Fisher got the ball ahead to Jenna Nowland who found Carson Cerow for a 2-1 edge at the 6:09 mark.
- The visitors drew level off a strike from Sofie Steel, but Grace Kelly (Marnie Todd assist) and Krista Yarusso exchanged markers late in the period to send things to the second at 3-3.
- A late card to Eva Gardner prior to the end of the first allowed the Spartans to begin the second on the power play which they took full advantage of with a tally from Sydney Mentzer just 34-seconds in.
- Two offerings from Whiteside and one for Fisher were denied by Garabo, but ultimately Kelly would connect with Whiteside for the finish to knot the score again (4-4).
- A giveaway by YCP off the ensuing draw win gave the Red and White an opportunity to take the lead, unfortunately, Nowland was told no by Garabo. That allowed the guests to head back down the field and get a goal by Juliana Silvernale to jump ahead 5-4 with 6:32 gone.
- Garabo and VanDorpe each recorded one more stop in the period, before Ward extended the gap to 6-4 heading to the break.
- The Spartans took command to open up the quarter using the opening 6:19 to strike four times and not allow a single DC shot as they jumped ahead 10-4 prompting a DC timeout.
- Following a save by VanDorpe on Kate Feldman, it became all about Garabo as she recorded stops against Jillian McNulty, Cerow, Parker and Whiteside to allow her side to preserve the 10-4 lead into the fourth.
- York used an early power play chance to see their lead extend by one when Gianna Huet buried the rock off a free-position chance at the 2:53 mark.
- Couple of minutes went by with neither side able to get any kind of offensive flow going until Mia Seergae popped the rock free from Sofie Steel and got it ahead to Caroline Cavendish who deposited the ball past Garabo to cut it down to 11-5 with 10:40 left.
- The Devils defense locked things down as they tried to give themselves a chance at getting back into the game as Ali Broome, Seergae and VanDorpe each forced a turnover to hold the gap at 11-5 with just over a minute left.
- Whiteside would cap the scoring just a few seconds later to set the 11-6 final.
