CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team found themselves in an early hole on Wednesday night and were never able to work their way out as the fourth-ranked Gettysburg College Bullets picked up a 16-4 conference win at Clark Field.
- The Red and White were kept under wraps for the opening eight minutes as Dickinson was held without a shot against Juliette deVarenne, while at the other end Emily Crane, Julia Daly and Sarah Scollin beat Peyton VanDorpe for a 3-0 lead.
- Following a stop by VanDorpe on Crane, Faith Parker went down the field and notched the Devils first shot of the game which was stopped by the deVarenne.
- Gettysburg added the final two shots of the period with Daly converting for the second time to push the advantage to 4-0 after 15 minutes.
- Dickinson would put Sierra McLaughlin between the pipes to start the period. After Parker claimed the opening draw the ball eventually worked its way to Bella Guckes who had a shot shutdown by deVarenne.
- Nina Marra made it 5-0, before Delaney Herbert tasked deVarenne with making another save. However, Carson Cerow found the loose ball and got it over to Guckes who connected with Jenna Nowland for the tally with 3:08 gone.
- Over the ensuing four minutes, DC recorded one shot from Caroline Cavendish, while the hosts struck on three of their next four chances stretching the gap to 8-1.
- After deVarenne turned away Herbert two times, Maddie Passarello and Crane got the Bullets to double-digits at 10-1 inside of three minutes left.
- The Devils tried to chip into the deficit heading to the half, but chances for Grace Kelly and Sage Whiteside missed the mark. Unfortunately, Sophie Smith beat the clock to take the lead to 11-1.
- Dickinson needed just over a minute to trim one off the margin as Whiteside caused a turnover and got a pass up to Parker who hit Cerow for the strike.
- However, less than a minute later the Bullets got the marker right back thanks to Smith (12-2).
- Gettysburg ended the period with a 3-1 run as Guckes collected the lone score for DC leaving it at 15-3 heading to fourth.
- The Red and White came out pressing hard recording the opening four shots with deVarenne denying both Caroline Cavendish and Herbert.
- Following a groundball pickup by VanDorpe who had returned to the cage, she linked up with Guckes who hooked up with Whiteside (15-4).
- Over the remainder of the frame Izzy Hall and Liv Rizzi would each force a turnover and Cerow and Kelly caused the keeper to make a save. However the hosts were the ones that added another goal courtesy of Daly to set the 16-4 result.
