Summer Check-In
Where are you working/interning this summer? Company and Location.

I work as an Administrative Assistant to a Financial Representative for Northwestern Mutual in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Please describe your day-to-day responsibilities in this position.

I ensure that clients are taken care of on the back end of things through managing scheduling, helping to prepare client documentation and keeping accurate records of where clients are in either the underwriting or investment process. On the front end, I work with client communications and processing their information to go from their hands to the necessary person throughout the entire operation.

What made this experience appealing to you?

Through this position, I get to develop my own system to assist my advisor in his work. I was drawn to the autonomy of the role, as well as my interest in finance. I enjoy that I get to help people set themselves up for long-term financial success, and it's great real-world exposure to all that comes with the finance industry. I'm also super fortunate that I am able to work from home for most of the week!

How does this experience relate to your career or life aspirations? What are you looking to personally get out of it?

I enjoy the finance world, and one of my core values is helping people. This position combines both, and helps me to get my foot in the door within the industry. Personally, I appreciate how willing the team is to educate me on all of their individual positions and skillsets, and exactly how each part of the process works together to get to the client's goal.

How has your athletics career prepared you for this role?

My athletics career has been tremendous in helping me prepare for this position, specifically through working with a team under a time-oriented deadline. Within the team at NM, everyone has their role, like on the court, but we all have to be able to mesh and pivot to achieve the common goal for the clients. In addition, my ability to communicate efficiently under pressure has improved greatly because of basketball, and my position benefits a lot from that particular skillset.

What are you looking forward to for this upcoming year for your sport?

I'm looking forward to my upcoming senior year. I'm surrounded by such strong, funny and intelligent women, and I can't wait to have one last ride with them. I'm excited to get back to the conference playoffs this year, and I'm excited to keep playing new and high-level competition now that the conference is split.

Is there anything else you are looking forward to this summer outside of this experience?

I'm looking forward to going to the beach, hanging out with my hometown friends and soaking up the last summer of undergrad. I also can't wait to visit a few of my teammates over the 4th of July, and to work our annual basketball camp & tournament with the whole squad for the final time. They really are my best friends, and I can't wait to see them again!
