VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Senior
Luke Finkielstein erased a 1-0 second-half deficit with a 58th-minute strike as the eighth-ranked Dickinson men's soccer team opened up their 2025 campaign on Friday night with a hard fought 1-1 non-conference road draw against Virginia Wesleyan University at Foster Field.
First Half
- The Red and White had the first chance to get on the scoreboard in the seventh-minute when Ethan Jarden was denied by Ben Haynes. Just over a minute later Saul Iwowo got an opportunity, but had it knocked down by the defense.
- Darian Crim and Finkielstein got shots in the 22nd and 31st respectively, but Haynes was up to the task on both.
- Wesleyan's lone crack of the half came with 24:41 gone, fortunately it sailed over the head of Nick Potter in goal.
Second Half
- Crim was the Devils primary attacker early in the half as he took three shots in the opening six minutes tasking Haynes to make one stop.
- Then, in the 53rd it would be the Marlins who grabbed the lead through a strike by JaMarhe Wills.
- However, the Devils needed roughly five minutes to find an equalizer as Jarden solved Haynes to make it 1-1.
- The teams shared eight shots over the remainder of the match with Charlie Roy and Jarden forcing stops out of Haynes, while Westin Fryberger and Iwowo missed the target.
- Potter would not be called upon again as the final whistle sounded at 1-1.
