No. 8 Devils End Virginia Trip by Drawing With Captains

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The eighth-ranked Dickinson men's soccer team was back at it on Saturday evening less than 24-hours after playing to a 1-1 draw against Virginia Wesleyan University. Unfortunately, for the Red and White they would suffer the same fate at Captains Field as the Devils and Christopher Newport University played to a 0-0 tie.

First Half
  • Both sides had their chances within the opening ten minutes to find a breakthrough as Drew McWhinney rang the crossbar, while both Darian Crim and Saul Iwowo had their offerings blocked by the CNU defense.
  • After Dickinson was unable to do anything with a couple of attacking corners in minutes 11 and 13, keeper Gavin Marr was called into action during the 17th as he shutdown Ryan Buckon.
  • The duo of Ethan Jarden and Iwowo took a crack at goal with 31:05 and 33:58 off the clock respectively, but neither tested Hayden Dewey.
  • CNU would get the final opportunity of the period as Riley Usher launched one over the top of frame.
Second Half
  • It took over six minutes to see the first shot of the period when Colin Skwirut slipped an attempt wide left of Marr.
  • The Captains continued to keep the Devils bottled up not allowing a shot over the first 25-plus minutes of the half, while Ethan Arnolds recorded the home side's second shot sending it high of frame.
  • Dickinson's first chance came with 73:30 off the clock when Charlie Roy forced a save out of Dewey.
  • Each side tried to cash in off a header inside the final ten minutes as McWhinney missed wide (84:57) and Iwowo had his attempt knocked wide by Dewey to finished off the scoreless draw.
