GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Dickinson volleyball team opened 2025 with mixed results on Friday night at the Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg College inside of Bream Gymnasium. The Red and White first dropped a 3-1 decision to Grove City College, before blanking Shenandoah University 3-0 in the nightcap.
First Match - Wolverines 3, DEVILS 1 (25-21, 20-25, 27-25, 25-19)
Set One
- The two sides shared the opening eight points, before four kills from Eliette Whittaker and a solo for Amelia Kim made it 10-6 DC.
- Then, GCC responded with five of the next seven as a kill from Alayna Dorst cut the margin to one 12-11.
- Kills put down by Mallie Thomas, Kim and Whittaker pushed the lead to 16-14, but a 9-3Â answer for the Wolverines clawed them to the front at 23-19.
- Dickinson would get scores from Caroline Cusson and Jessica Currie to get within 24-21, prior to Sarah Hart tallying the final kill of the set (25-21).
Set Two
- Lily Lagaras and Hart got GCC out to a 5-3 edge, before Cusson, Kim and Thomas moved DC in front 9-6.
- For the second consecutive set the Wolverines battled back to get within 14-13. However, kills for Lora Flynn, Cusson, Thomas and Whittaker kept DCÂ on top 19-16.
- After four of the next six went to GCC, Cusson, Kim and Thomas each posted a score to cap the second 25-20.
Set Three
- The duo of Kendra Klusch and Hart helped GCC to an early 6-3 lead.
- An ace for Camille Dofiles along with kills from Flynn, Kim, Thomas and Whittaker made it 10-10.
- Following a DC attack error, the quartet of Dofiles, Kim, Thomas and Whittaker each put down a kill for the Devils to grab a 16-12 edge.
- Brooke Manfull, Lily Pool and Lila Stonehouse joined Klusch on a 10-4 push to jump back ahead 22-20.
- Two scores for Kim and singles by Cusson, Thomas and Whittaker knotted the score at 25-25, but an error and a Manfull kill took the set 27-25.
Set Four
- Katie Arcara, Kim and Thomas accounted for the DC scores at the beginning of the frame as the Red and White fell behind 10-7.
- A pair of Hart kills and a solo put home by Dorst aided a 6-1 run to double the score at 16-8.
- Dickinson did not go away though as Currie, Kim and Whittaker took five of the ensuing six to cut the deficit to 17-13.
- However, the Wolverines would keep the Devils just far enough away the remainder of the set with Dorst picking up the final kill of the match at 25-19.

Set One
- Dickinson was out of the gates fast with Arcara, Cusson, Kim and Whittaker all picking up points to jump out in front 8-5.
- After a bad serve cut it to 8-6, a combo block between Flynn and Whittaker along with a pair of Thomas kills extended the gap to 13-6.
- A 5-1 charge for SU made it 14-11, but Cusson, Currie, Dofiles, Kim and Thomas embarked on a dominant 11-2 rampage to take the set 25-13.
Set Two
- Solo kills for Cusson, Currie and Thomas gave DC a 4-1 edge, but a 6-1 response from the Hornets ending on an Amber Shifflett score moved SU ahead 7-5.
- An ace put away by Butcher and kills pounded down from Arcara and Kim regained the lead for the Devils at 11-9.
- After the Hornets drew level 12-12, Currie was a part of two combo blocks with Cusson and Whittaker respectively as Dickinson claimed five of the next six for the 17-13 advantage.
- SU continued to battle as they fought back to within 22-21, before two Hornet miscues and a Kim tally gave the Red and White the set at 25-23.
Set Three
- Dickinson came out firing in the third with Butcher, Cusson, Currie and Kim pushing the Devils ahead by a score of 11-4.
- Hannah Hylton and Ashlynn Spence rallied for the Hornets to cut the margin to 12-10.
- An error and Thomas kill stretched the gap to four (14-10), but a 5-2 SU run trimmed the gap back to one again at 16-15.
- Currie, Kim and Thomas made sure that their opponent would get no closer as they made it 22-17.Â
- The Hornets used three scores from Spence to make the score 24-21, before an errant serve by Spence ended the match in the Devils favor (25-21).
