CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's volleyball team concluded their opening weekend at the Battlefield Classic by dropping a pair of tough three-set non-conference matches to Bridgewater College and Messiah University on Saturday afternoon inside of Bream Gymnasium.
Match One - Eagles 3, DEVILS 0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-16)
Set One
- Things began tight as solo kills by Jessica Currie and Mallie Thomas had DC behind 4-3.
- Then, back-to-back scores from Maya Veselinovic sparked an 11-4 outburst for BC to make it 15-7.
- A pair of Eagle errors and a combo block between Caroline Cusson and Currie kept the margin at eight (18-10).
- However, the Red and White did not go away as with Cusson on the service line they ripped off nine consecutive points thanks to scores for Amelia Kim, Eliette Whittaker, Cusson, Currie and Thomas to take a slim 19-18 lead.
- An ace for Katie Arcara and two kills by Whittaker allowed DC to maintain the advantage at 23-22.
- Unfortunately, BC came up with the following three points to take the set (25-23).
Set Two
- Dickinson got off to a good start as kills for Iona Nelson, Cusson, Kim and Thomas had the Devils ahead 9-6.
- After three straight by Reagan Stoop tied the game, the two sides traded scores all the way out to 16-16 with Cusson, Thomas and Whittaker supplying the offense for DC.
- Two mishits for the Eagles and single kills put down by Cusson and Nelson made it 20-19 to Dickinson.
- Bridgewater made sure the Red and White could not finish the job though as they ended on a 6-1 sprint for a 25-21 win.
Set Three
- The two sides traded the opening eight points as Camille Dofiles, Cusson and Thomas provided kills for DC.
- Then, Bridgewater gained control with a 10-4 run aided primarily by Stoop's five kills making the score 14-8.
- Lora Flynn, Nelson, Thomas and Whittaker helped the Devils battle back to within 18-14.
- Unfortunately, from that point on Thomas provided the lone DC kill as the Eagles soared to a 7-2 match-ending run (25-16).

Match Two - Falcons 3, DEVILS 0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-17)
Set One
- Things started well for the Devils as Norah Oppenheim, Cusson and Thomas had DC up 8-3.
- The Falcons then claimed five of the next eight to get within 11-8, before the duo of Dofiles and Thomas pushed the lead out to 16-9.
- Kills by Katie Quesenberry and Sydney Wolfe sparked a 6-2 run for Messiah making it 18-15.
- A score by Nelson stopped the push, but the Falcons answered with another lengthy run of 9-3 to go ahead 24-22 on another Wolfe kill.
- An error and Thomas kill knotted the score, before Makenzie Adams and Wolfe closed the set (26-24).
Set Two
- The two sides shared the first dozen points with Kim and Oppenheim supplying the offense for DC.
- Cynthia Boller then sent the Falcons on a 9-4 flight with Thomas providing three kills for the Devils, but left them trailing 15-10.
- After the teams exchanged the next six, three Thomas scores and a pair of Dofiles aces pulled Dickinson back to 21-19.
- Unfortunately, for the Red and White Julia Bowen, Adams and Quesenberry kept them from getting back into the frame as the Falcons took it 25-23.
Set Three
- An error and kill for Oppenheim were the only DC points during a 14-2 run by the Falcons to open the set.
- Then, the Devils showed their fight and determination as Emery Fishbach, Cusson, Flynn, Kim and Thomas stormed back with a 14-3 outburst to get the gap to 17-15.
- Messiah would put the match away thanks to an 8-2 charge setting the final at 25-17.
