Third Quarter Heroics Keep Devils Undefeated

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Dickinson field hockey team used third quarter tallies from Erin Liggio and Nicole Uebele to turnaround a 1-0 halftime deficit into a 2-1 non-conference win over the host Susquehanna University River Hawks at Sassafras Field on Wednesday afternoon.

First Quarter
  • After a quiet opening two minutes the Red and White worked their way into the attack area and earned three penalty corners that were inserted by Maggie Carson resulting in chances for Sophia Pereira and Liggio all of which were fired wide of Taytum Lombardi's cage.
  • The River Hawks would have to wait until the 11:43 mark to record their first shot of the contest as Emma Campitelli was shutdown by DC keeper Taylor Morrow.
  • Megan McClure got one final look at goal with less than 30-seconds remaining, but it was knocked down by the SU defense.
Second Quarter
  • The period belonged to the home side as they posted the only four shots of the frame leading to one stop by Morrow as well as a goal from Campitelli at the 10:14 mark to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
Third Quarter
  • It took over five minutes for either side to record a shot as Carson inserted a corner that eventually made its way over to Natalie Slusser who slipped a pass to Liggio who was able to fire the ball past Lombardi tying the game at 1-1.
  • Two minutes later another corner from Carson led to Gillian Rosenstock having a shot snuffed out by the SU defense.
  • The River Hawks only real look at cage came in the 11th-minute as Hannah Garlin inserted a corner, but it did not result in a shot at Morrow's cage.
  • Dickinson would extend their advantage going to the fourth when a corner by Carson setup Pereira for a shot that was blocked. However, the ball kicked out to Rosenstock who found Uebele for the finish.
Fourth Quarter
  • Morrow was under some pressure early as a pair of corners forced her to make a pair of saves against Campitelli.
  • The Devils tried to used their own corner to add another goal to their tally, but Alexandra Hockwitt had her shot kept out of the net by Taylor Rothermel. Then, four minutes from time another corner resulted in Campitelli swiping the ball off the line on a shot from Slusser.
  • Inside of the final minute Susquehanna went in search of an equalizer when a corner from Garlin landed on the stick of Campitelli. Fortunately, for the Red and White her offering went wide to end the game.
