CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson volleyball team picked up 11 aces and seven blocks to go along with a near .300 hitting percentage en route to claiming their third consecutive win over a Penn State branch as the Red and White down Penn State-Berks by a final of 3-0 on Thursday night inside the Kline Center.
First Set
- After the score was tied 1-1, Penn State went on an 8-3 push with kills coming for Madelyn Caris and Cornelia Hathcoat (9-4).
- Dickinson answered back with aces from Camille Dofiles and Eliette Whittaker as well as kills by Lora Flynn, Iona Nelson and Mallie Thomas trimming the gap to just one at 10-9.
- The trio of Emily Snader, Libby Swoyer and Caris worked hard to keep the Nittany Lions in front 14-12, but the group of Amelia Kim, Flynn and Whittaker ran off six straight to jump in front 18-14.
- PSU grabbed three of the next four, before Emery Fishbach, Thomas and Whittaker ripped off the ensuing six to take the set 25-17.
Second Set
- This time it was the Devils who jumped out to the fast lead with Lillian Bigsby, Norah Oppenheim and Thomas all recording kills to make it 7-3.
- PSU then went on to score five of the next seven as the duo of Jessica Currie and Caroline Cusson picked up the DC scores leaving it at 9-8.
- A kill each for Cassidy Davis and Oppenheim along with an ace by Flynn allowed the home side to cling onto a two-point cushion 12-10.
- From that moment on it was all Devils as they ended the frame on a 13-1 stampede with Katie Arcara, Bigsby, Davis, Oppenheim and Thomas all getting on the scoresheet for the 25-11 win.
Third Set
- Dickinson used a strong service game to take an early lead as Kylie Schner and Arcara combined for three aces, while kills by Cusson, Kim, Nelson and Oppenheim had the Red and White ahead 13-7.
- Scores for Karlie Kershner and Caris gave the visitors some home at 15-10, but five of the next six went to DC thanks to Avery Butcher, Kim and Nelson (20-11).
- Kills put down by Snader and Swoyer allowed PSU to trim two off the gap, before blocks from Cusson and Oppenheim set the stage for a Davis kill to end the match (25-14).
