Carson's OT Winner Keeps No. 20 Devils Undefeated

ANNVILLE, Pa. - The 20th-ranked Dickinson field hockey team needed to go beyond the regular 60 minutes for the second time during the 2025 season on Wednesday night as they tried to remain unbeaten in a non-conference contest against Lebanon Valley College at Arnold Field. Fortunately, for the Red and White, Maggie Carson would find the back of the cage with 8:40 gone in the the first overtime to period to secure a 1-0 win.

First Quarter
  • Dickinson would carry the play in the opening period outshooting LVC by a 7-0 margin.
  • In the fifth minute, both Sophia Pereira and Natalie Slusser would miss the target off a penalty corner.
  • The remainder of the frame was all about LVC keeper Ella Weidenhammer as she shutdown Erin Liggio, Pereira and Slusser a combined four times to keep it scoreless heading to the second.
Second Quarter
  • Five minutes into the period a corner inserted by Gracie Johnson led to the Dutchmen's first shot of the night from Danika Setlock, but it was blocked by the defense.
  • The Devils would record the only other attempt in the 25th minute, unfortunately Slusser was denied by Weidenhammer.
Third Quarter
  • Much like the first quarter it would be Dickinson who carried all the offensive momentum as they earned three penalty corners resulting in three shots, but the offerings from Caroline Kirkpatrick, Nicole Uebele and Liggio only forced Weidenhammer into one save moving the match to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
  • Dickinson's defense continued to be the story as they did not allow a shot in the frame, which included killing off multiple "player down" opportunities.
  • There would be just two attempts in the frame with Gillian Rosenstock being stopped by Weidenhammer in the 54th and Calyn Clements ripping one wide in the 55th following three consecutive corners.
Overtime
  • The Dutchmen began the period with their "hair on fire" as Lauren Foster tested DC goalie Taylor Morrow just two minutes in, but she was up to the task. Other chances from Claire Weidenhammer and Setlock rolled wide of the cage giving the Devils an opportunity to try and find the winner themselves.
  • That was exactly what the Red and White would do as the ball rolled out to the left side of the attacking area off a corner and found the stick of Carson who lifted the ball over the charging Weidenhammer and into the net for the winner.
