CARLISLE, Pa. - The eighth-ranked Dickinson men's soccer team held a 22-3 edge in shots, including a dominant second-half margin of 13-1. However, the Red and White would need a 65th-minute goal from senior
Saul Iwowo en order to salvage a 1-1 draw with the visiting Stevenson University at Miller Memorial Field on Wednesday afternoon.
First Half
- The visitors wasted no time in getting a goal as an early foul led to a free kick just outside the box. Gianfranco Vitella played in the ball and Ellis Amo got an outstretched leg to it and steered it past Nick Potter into the net for a 1-0 edge in the eighth minute.
- Dickinson thought they had an equalizer just about a minute later, but Iwowo was whistled for offsides as he sent a shot beyond Stevenson keeper Nolen Olson-Warwick.
- Olson-Warwick was then put under massive pressure with Ethan Jarden and Timi Omoniwa tasking him with making saves, while Iwowo sent one over the top of the net as a half hour had come off the clock.
- The Red and White continued to press the Mustangs leading to chances for Nicholas Dwamena, Jeremy Sallade, Jarden and Iwowo which tasked Olson-Warwick to notch one more save prior to the halftime break.
Second Half
- The duo of Iwowo and Jarden combined for three shots within the opening seven minutes, but none of them bothered Olson-Warwick.
- Over the ensuing ten minutes Dwamena, Jarden and Omoniwa each put a chance towards goal forcing Olson-Warwick into one more stop as then match entered the final 30 minutes.
- In the 65th-minute, Dickinson finally found their goal when a foul whistled against Jacob Greene just outside the box set the stage for a free kick for the Devils. Sallade would clip the ball over the top of the Mustang defense and find the head of Iwowo who turned it home for the equalizer.
- 15 minutes from time Stevenson tried to nick a winner, but Amo was turned aside by Potter.
- Inside the final ten minutes the Red and White called upon Olson-Warwick twice as he shutdown Daniel Argueta Rosales in the 83rd and Westin Fryberger during the 89th to preserve the 1-1 draw.
