Devils Hold Off Chargers for Fifth Consecutive Win

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson volleyball team got all they could handle from the visiting Lancaster Bible College on Wednesday night inside the Kline Center. However, it would be the Red and White who would come out on the good end of five-set thriller winning by scores of 23-25, 25-21, 26-24, 23-25 and 15-5. The Devils were led by a trio of players with double-digit kills with Mallie Thomas posting a season and career-high 27 in the triumph.

First Set
  • Dickinson got off to a quick start with kills by Jessica Currie, Emery Fishbach, Lora Flynn, Amelia Kim, Thomas and Eliette Whittaker getting them out to a 9-4 lead.
  • Jessica Fletcher, Jessica Hendricks and Madeline Reed helped LBC to battle back to within one at 13-12.
  • The duo of Kim and Whittaker accounted for six of the next eight points making the score 19-14.
  • Unfortunately, scores for Thomas and Whittaker were not enough as the Chargers ended with an 11-4 gallop to take it 25-23.
Second Set
  • Eden Belford and Fletcher had the visitors out to an early 7-3 edge.
  • Currie and Kim brought the Red and White to within 9-6, before Amanda Palo went to service line and using three aces and a trio of Thomas kills ripped off 11 of the next 13 to make it 17-11 DC.
  • A kill for Caroline Cusson was the only Devil point during a 5-1 stretch to leave DC ahead 18-16.
  • Three Thomas kills along with solo scores from Currie and Whittaker gave the Devils a 25-21 win.
Third Set
  • The two teams traded the opening six points of the frame, before three more Thomas kills and points for Kim and Whittaker made it 9-6 home side.
  • Things continued to seesaw with the teams exchanging the ensuing ten points for a 14-11 DC edge.
  • Ashby Brummer, Lea Sareyka and Belford went on a 6-2 stretch to reclaim the lead by one 17-16.
  • Dickinson answered with six of the next eight thanks to Camille Dofiles, Kim and Thomas to go back ahead 22-19.
  • LBC would rally back to eventually have set point at 24-23, but points from Cusson, Flynn and Thomas allowed the Devils to storm back for the 26-24 win.
Fourth Set
  • Things were tight early with a Fletcher ace giving LBC a slim 5-4 edge, before Dickinson went on an 8-3 run on scores for Avery Butcher, Kim and Thomas making it 12-8.
  • Two Thomas kills and a solo by Whittaker allowed the Red and White to maintain their lead at 17-14.
  • The Chargers then dug in with scores for Belford, Fletcher and Sareyka along with three aces from Maggie Kwiatkowski putting them on the verge of a decisive fifth 24-21.
  • A kill each for Currie and Thomas made it 24-23, but Riley Dodrer put home the final kill of the set (25-23).
Fifth Set
  • With the score tied at 2-2, a kill for Whittaker sent Palo to the service line. That was when DC would take command scoring the next eight points with scores from Flynn, Kim, Thomas and Whittaker giving the Devils an 11-2 advantage.
  • Three of the next four went to the Chargers (12-5), before two LBC errors and a Thomas smash ended the set and match 15-5.
