CARLISLE, Pa. - Sophomore
Mallie Thomas posted a season and career-high 21 kills on Wednesday night as the Dickinson volleyball team snapped a small two-game skid with a 3-1 non-conference win over Penn State-Harrisburg inside the Kline Center.
Match Results - DEVILS 3, Lions 1 (25-15, 24-26, 25-18, 25-10)
Set One
- Dickinson got out to a good start as kills from Emery Fishbach, Amelia Kim and Thomas had the Red and White up 8-5.
- After two straight for PSU cut the margin to one, the Devils used scores for Jessica Currie, Fishbach and Thomas to extend the gap to 13-9.
- The Lions tried to work their way back into things thanks to four DC miscues making it 13-15.
- Aces for Katie Arcara and Eliette Whittaker along with kills by Kim and Thomas capped a 10-2 romp for the home side to take the first 25-15.
Set Two
- Harrisburg took command early with points for Hannah DeGregory, Alex Jurney and Mackenzy Miller giving them a 9-4 lead.
- Single kills each by Thomas and Whittaker pulled it back to 9-6, before two DC mistakes pushed it out to 11-6.
- Lora Flynn, Amanda Palo, Currie, Thomas and Whittaker kept on fighting for the Red and White, but they would still trail 17-15.
- A trio of Thomas kills, two for Whittaker, an ace from Palo along with a block from Fishbach aided an 8-5 push to actually take a 23-22 advantage.
- Unfortunately, the Lions nabbed four of the ensuing five to finish the frame on a kill by DeGregory (26-24).
Set Three
- Dickinson would erase an early 4-0 deficit thanks to points from Kim and Thomas to draw level at 7-7.
- After two Lions points, Fishbach, Flynn, Palo and Whittaker answered with seven of the next dozen to jump in front 14-12.
- Two errors brought PSU to 14-14, but four Thomas kills and a combination block between Fishbach and Flynn closed out an 11-4 romp for the 25-18 win.
Set Four
- PSU jumped out to a 2-0 edge, but three Thomas kills and two points each from Fishbach and Whittaker made it 8-2.
- A kill by Camryn Wettstone and ace collected by Nicole Dos Santos trimmed the gap to 9-5, before the duo of Kim and Thomas opened the lead to 13-5.
- Four of the next six went to PSU to close within 15-9.
- However, Arcara, Kim, Thomas and Whittaker responded with a 10-1 rampage to claim the match 25-10.
