Devils Put on Defensive Clinic Against Cardinals to Remain Unbeaten

WASHINGTON - The Dickinson field hockey team caged up the host Catholic University Cardinals on Saturday afternoon picking up a 1-0 non-conference win at Cardinal Stadium. The Red and White dominated play on the day outshooting the home side 21-1 (15-0 on goal) and holding a 9-3 edge in penalty corners.

First Quarter
  • There was not much action in the opening stanza as neither side was able to record a shot towards either keeper Taylor Morrow for the Devils and Ella Bowman from Catholic.
  • The only potential offensive threat came in the second minute when the hosts earned a corner, but were unable to do anything with it.
Second Quarter Third Quarter
  • The opening five minutes saw the Devils earn three penalty corners and tally three shots thanks to Emmy Chazen, Erin Liggio and Uebele, but Bowman made two more stops.
  • After a foul by the Cardinals in the attack circle, DC was awarded a penalty stroke. Uebele stepped up to the spot to take the shot. However, Bowman was once again up to the task.
  • Then, in the 38th-minute Dickinson's effort was finally rewarded when a corner played in by Maggie Carson came to the stick of Liggio who let a shot go wide of the mark. Fortunately, Liggio recovered the ball and found Carson for the strike making it 1-0.
  • Two cards in rapid succession by the Cardinals led to the Red and White playing two players up, unfortunately shots from Alexandra Hockwitt, Sophia Pereira and Kirkpatrick were unable to solve Bowman as the game went to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
  • The final frame saw a combined five yellow cards and one shot from each team, but no more goals as the Devils closed out the 1-0 win.
