Moran's Double-Double Not Enough for Devils in Conference Opening Loss to Garnet

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Junior forward Dane Moran netted a season-high 30 points and grabbed 11 boards to post his third double-double of the season. However, it was not enough for the Dickinson men's basketball team pick up their first conference win of the season as the host Swarthmore College grabbed an 88-78 victory at Tarble Pavilion on Saturday afternoon.

First Half
  • The home side used the first two minutes to take a 7-3 lead thanks to buckets from Zander Jimenez and Eddie Paquette.
  • Over the ensuing two minutes the visitors battled back to get a 10-9 edge as Joey Dopirak delivered from deep, while Cole Cosby and Isaiah Edmond each added two.
  • The game continued to seesaw back-and-forth with Cosby sticking a triple to knot things at 16-16 with 12:12 left.
  • A strong finish for Moran along with contributions from Jacob Pichay and Edmond gave DC a 22-18 lead. However, the Garnet answered with an 11-2 charge started by Caleb Aurelien and finished on foul shots for Paquette making it 29-24 under five minutes remaining.
  • Dickinson had a big response though with a layup for Moran kicking off a 8-2 run to end the period which saw Edmond supply the final six points to give the Red and White a slim 32-31 lead at halftime.
Second Half
  • The Garnet came out of the break of fire as consecutive three-balls for Devin Burger started a 12-2 outburst over the first 3:19 to push them back ahead 43-34.
  • Moran collected the next six points for the Devils, but it did nothing to cut into the lead as the Garnet stayed in front 49-40 with just over 14 minutes left.
  • The trio of Brady Kageyama, Jonathan Stump and Jimenez continued to hold the visitors at-bay as the advantage grew to 57-44 two minutes later.
  • Treys from Matt Mahoney, Cosby and Dopirak coupled with free throws for Moran continued to keep the Devils afloat at 64-55 at the 10:23 mark.
  • Every time Dickinson would notch a bucket the Garnet would have the answer as layups for Juan Ruiz and Pichay were matched with scores for Matthew Maloney and Stump knocking the margin to 69-61.
  • Points for Moran and Ruiz cut the deficit to three (69-66), but the pair of Paquette and Stump embarked on an 11-4 romp pushing the gap back to ten (80-70) with just over three minutes remaining.
  • Buckets for Edmond, Moran and Pichay down the stretch were not enough for the Devils as the Garnet would keep the lead just out of reach to hold on for the 88-78 win.
