SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's basketball team got double-digits from
Mia Chapman and
Victoria Zerbe as well additional contributions from up and down the roster to help knock off the host Swarthmore College Garnet by a final of 59-52 inside of Tarble Pavilion to remain unbeaten in Centennial Conference play.
First Quarter
- Swarthmore began the game strong opening on an 8-3 run over the first 4:27 with a three-ball for Lizzie McGrath accounting for the lone DC bucket.
- An "old-fashioned" and one for Chapman made it 8-6, but Lily Czub and Vianna Kanyamiheto-Watson quickly pushed the lead back to 12-6 not even a minute later.
- Things continued to be "nip and tuck" with two Chapman foul shots, a triple for Jessica Maina and layup by Emma Landes closing the hosts edge to just one 14-13 with two minutes left.
- Unfortunately, the Garnet got the only other points of the frame with Catherine Chadwell knocking down two at the line in the final minute to make it 16-13 after ten minutes.
Second Quarter
- Dickinson opened up with the first four points of the frame thanks to Clare Cronley and Leah Dubin (17-16).
- The teams then shared the ensuing eight points with Carly Murphy and Czub tallying for the Garnet, while Chapman connected on a pair of layups to keep the Red and White up one (21-20) at the halfway point.
- Over the next three minutes the scoring continued at both ends with Swarthmore eventually pulling level at 27 when Kanyamiheto-Watson finished at the rim.
- A pair of Czub foul shots pushed the Garnet ahead 29-27, but a layup for Chapman along with a steal on the ensuing inbound pass by McGrath resulting in her own jumper gave the Devils a 31-29 advantage going to the third.
Third Quarter
- Early baskets from Cronley and Zerbe allowed DC to maintain a slime 35-33 lead just over two minutes gone.
- The teams would combine to miss 14 of the ensuing 15 shots with a jumper for Zerbe accounting for the lone made bucket (37-33).
- Scoring continued to be at a premium the remainder of the period for the visitors as a Jelena Subasic jumper was the only score for Dickinson during a 5-2 Swarthmore push as they got within 39-38 entering the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
- A layup by Chadwell and triple out of the hands of Kanyamiheto-Watson moved the Garnet ahead 43-39 at the 1:41 mark.
- Dickinson answered back with 13 of the next 15 points courtesy of free throws by Addison Cadwell and Chapman along with additional contributions from Cronley and Zerbe giving the Devils a 52-44 edge with 2:57 left.
- Swarthmore tried desperately to get back into the game late, but foul shots delivered by the duo of Cadwell and McGrath kept the Garnet at-bay securing the 59-52 victory.
