VB - Schner and Thomas Ignite Devils Past Bulldogs

CARLISLE, Pa. - The duo of Kylie Schner and Mallie Thomas joined together to record 29 kills, while senior Jessica Currie chipped in nine to help the Dickinson volleyball team best the visiting DeSales University by a final of 3-1 at the Kline Center on Thursday night in non-conference play.

First Set
  • Five points from Thomas and a solo score for Currie made it 6-1 home side.
  • After DeSales took five of the next eight to close within 9-6, three joint blocks between Caroline Cusson and Lora Flynn along with kills by Schner extended the lead to 14-6.
  • The trio of Samantha Buff, Allison Reimer and Brooke Signorella helped the guests battle back to 19-16.
  • Aces for Avery Butcher and Brenna Williams along with points from Cusson, Schner and Thomas helped DC hold on for the 25-21 win.
Second Set
  • Once again Dickinson began fast as kills by Currie, Cusson, Thomas and Williams gave the hosts a 7-3 edge.
  • Buff and Reimer brought DSU even at 9-9, before Norah Oppenheim, Currie, Cusson and Thomas provided points to make it 17-12.
  • Back-to-back DC miscues sparked a 7-0 run ending on a kill for Reimer sending the 'Dogs to a 19-17 advantage.
  • An ace from Butcher and a Currie kill helped the Red and White get within 24-22, but a score for Buff took the set (25-22).
Third Set
  • Things were tight early as points by Katie Arcara, Emery Fishbach, Currie and Schner left the home team behind 8-6.
  • Following a kill put down by Oppenheim, contributions for Currie, Fishbach and Williams moved DC on top 13-9.
  • The duo of Alexis Hoyer and Buff were answered by kills from Cusson, Oppenheim and Thomas for an 18-12 Devils lead.
  • DeSales continued to fight hard ultimately trimming the gap to one (21-20), before Schner and Thomas finished off the 25-20 win.
Fourth Set
  • Haylee Arnold, Jocelyn Castro and Bryanna Purisima helped DSU to a 10-4 advantage.
  • A pair of Cusson kills and a solo from Thomas cut the deficit to 11-8, before Mackenzie Fox joined Castro and Hoyer in bumping the margin out to 15-11.
  • Dickinson then took command as a missed serve by Purisima resulted in a 13-3 outburst with contributions coming from Currie, Cusson, Schner and Thomas (24-18).
  • Fox recorded a kill to make it 24-19, but a service into the net by Kylie Campbell closed out the match.
