CARLISLE, Pa. – Senior
Alexandra Hockwitt cashed in off a penalty corner with 6:35 left in the second overtime period to lift Dickinson field hockey to their third consecutive win knocking off the visiting Gettysburg College by a final of 2-1 at the Biddle Field Complex on Wednesday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.
First Quarter
- The period was tightly contested with neither side recording a shot. Dickinson had an opportunity to find some offensive pressure playing a player up for two minutes about halfway through but were unable to get anything toward Ava Spear in the Bullets cage.
Second Quarter
- Gettysburg's defense continued to be locked in as they once again prevented the Red and White from posting a shot.
- However, at the other end the Bullets fired three shots at Dickinson netminder Arden Cook who saw offerings from Sydney Yaw and Colleen Ragan go wide, before Elise Krock was able to finish off a scramble around the front of the cage for a 1-0 lead at the break.
Third Quarter
- Defense was the name of the game over the first five minutes as neither team could record a shot.
- Then with 7:52 off the clock Gillian Rosenstock worked her way down the right side of the pitch and put a pass right on the stick of Megan McClure who batted the ball past Spear to tie the game.
- The only other two shots of the frame courtesy of Alex Hackett who was denied twice in quick succession by Spear to end the period.
Fourth Quarter
- Dickinson spent the first two minutes asking all the questions as a corner played in by Rosenstock resulted in shots for the trio of Raegan Carty, Alex Hackett and McClure. However, none of them tested Spear in goal.
- About ten minutes later the Bullets used two corners to get three shots of their own with Yaw being denied by Cook, while Sofia Scalzo got the ball past the keeper but Nicole Uebele was there to clear the line.
- Gettysburg got one more look at winning it in regulation, fortunately the attempt by Cianna Miranda was tipped just wide at the horn.
First Overtime
- An early DC giveaway in the midfield set the stage for both Margaret-Ann Graves and Jillian Somers to have opportunities knocked down by the defense, before Cook had to turn away a second chance for Graves.
- With two minutes to go, Dickinson forced Spear to shutdown the pair of Erin Liggio and Hockwitt.
Second Overtime
- With both teams feeling the full effect of the heat and humidity in Carlisle there was only one shot and it came inside of seven minutes left when Hockwitt took a corner from Uebele and carried it to the right side of the circle firing a shot past Spear.
