Devils Downed by Green Terror Thanks to Buzzer Beater

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Junior forward Dane Moran racked up 33 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to help the Dickinson men's basketball team build up a 17-point halftime edge 40-23, but it would not be enough as Ashenafi Stuart knocked down a three-pointer from the logo at the buzzer to give the host McDaniel College a 66-64 Centennial Conference win at the Gill Center on Saturday afternoon.

First Half
  • Dickinson opened the game strong with four points by Moran and a jumper for Cole Cosby making it 6-1 with 3:33 gone.
  • Following foul shots from David Kearney and Stuart, the trio of Jacob Pichay, Cosby and Moran went on an 8-0 push giving the gusts a 14-5 advantage.
  • Layups from Bruce Black then started and ended an 8-3 run for the Green Terror to trim the gap to 17-13 at the 11:07 mark.
  • The period of runs continued with Ryan Leskauskas combining with Moran and Pichay during a 10-2 stretch to gain a comfortable margin of 27-15 with 5:19 remaining.
  • Two free throws converted by Ryan Shaffer stalled the DC romp for a second, but eight straight from the unit of Joey Dopirak, Moran and Pichay made it 35-17 inside two minutes left.
  • Points for Kaydin Ford and Shaffer gave the home side some life, but a triple for Leskauskas at the horn gave the Red and White the 40-23 lead heading to the break.
Second Half
  • A layup from Kearney was answered with a bucket by Cosby to keep the gap at 17 (42-25) with 2:32 gone.
  • Two shots at the charity line for Matt Kearney kicked off a 10-2 charge by the Green Terror ending on a layup for Shaffer pulling the hosts to within 44-35 just over five minutes in.
  • Seven of the next nine went the way of the Devils all thanks to Moran as he made it 51-37.
  • After two foul shots stuck by Dopirak pushed the margin to 53-37, before buckets from George Dallas, Kearney and Stuart resulted in an 18-0 charge to give McDaniel a 55-53 advantage with 5:16 left.
  • Shots at the charity stripe for both Luis Ruiz and Moran pulled the Red and White even at 59-59.
  • Another layup by Moran gave DC the lead, but an "old-school" three-point play from Kearney nudged the home side in front 63-61 inside of two minutes to play.
  • With three seconds left a Moran layup plus free throw off a Shaffer foul put the Devils in the drivers seat at 64-63. However, off the ensuing rebound Stuart would dribble ahead stopping just across the center line and hoisted a shot up that splash through at the horn to give the hosts a 66-64 win.
