Devils Fall to Diplomats in Final Road Game of the Year

LANCASTER, Pa. – For the second time this season the Dickinson men's basketball team put up a strong fight against one of the best in the conference Franklin & Marshall College. Despite being led by a team-high 22 points from junior forward Dane Moran the Red and White dropped a 68-45 decision to the Diplomats at the Mayser Center on Wednesday night.

First Half
  • Points were at a premium early as a foul shot for Kevin Nowoswiat was the only thing on the scoreboard through the first 3:29 until a jumper by Steve Donahue made it 3-0.
  • Dane Moran found the offense for the Red and White as he embarked on a solo 10-0 outburst for the 10-3 edge still with 14 minutes left.
  • That started a string of runs as Franklin Jones finished off a layup to kickoff a 16-2 charge for the Diplomats with a Nowoswiat bucket making it 19-12 inside of eight to go.
  • Dickinson had a response though with layups for Isaiah Edmond and Luis Ruiz coupled with a long-range shot by Matt Mahoney erasing the deficit to tie things up at 19-19.
  • Five consecutive points out of the hands of Sean Donovan set the stage for a 14-2 gallop by the hosts to reclaim their lead 33-21 with 18:18 gone.
  • Two foul shots converted by Jacob Pichay along with another Moran basket gave DC energy going into the break as they cut it down to 33-25 at halftime.
Second Quarter
  • Nowoswiat used the first two minutes to pick up four straight points to quickly extend the lead to 37-25.
  • After struggling to find some offensive flow to start a layup from Moran pulled things back to ten (37-27), but a 10-2 answer ending with a layup for Donahue stretched the margin to 47-29 with seven minutes gone.
  • Another bucket by Moran stalled the charge for a second, before five in a row collected by Nowoswiat made it 52-33 at the halfway point.
  • Over the next few minutes, DC got a layup from Ryan Leskauskas along with two at the charity line by Ruiz but it did not dent the F&M advantage 57-37.
  • Andrew Cerullo, Cole Cosby, Mahoney and Ruiz added points for the Devils over the rest of the game as the hosts closed out the 68-44 win.
