LANCASTER, Pa. - Following a big weekend at the Widener University Indoor Classic, sophomore
Franklyn Akabi-During has been named the Centennial Conference Track Athlete of the Week for the week of February 9-15 the league office announced on Tuesday.
The native of Washington, D.C., broke a trio of Centennial Conference and school records at the Widener Indoor Classic on Saturday. He started in the 60-meter dash, where he broke Centennial and Dickinson records with a time of 6.75 seconds, recording a second-place finish. That time ranks tied for sixth in Division III this season and bested his own previous record of 6.84 that was set on March 1 of 2025. In the 200 meters, Akabi-during ran a 21.44 to take first place and set another new Centennial and school standard. That time ranks 12th in the nation this winter. The sophomore concluded his day with a record-setting performance in the 4x400 relay, teaming with
Trevor Richwine,
Matthew Gareau and
Darian Crim to post a Centennial and Dickinson record time of 3:17.12. That time broke the previous CC record set by Ursinus in 2023 by just a hundredth of a second (0.01). Akabi-During was the lead-off runner for the race with splits of 24.208 and 25.896.
He and the rest of the Red Devils return to action on Friday evening when they take part in the Bucknell Tune-Up at Gerhard Fieldhouse in Lewisburg.
