Red Devils Break More Records at Widener Indoor Classic

Akabi-During sets both conference and school records in 60m and 200m, as well as 4x400 Relay team

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Dickinson men's track and field took on the Widener Indoor Classic at the Ott Center in Philadelphia, Pa. on Saturday afternoon. The 4x400m Relay team broke both school and conference records, as well as Franklyn Akabi-During setting new conference and school records too in both the 60m and 200m. 

Sprints
  • The day started in the 60m qualifiers, where Akabi-During punched his ticket to finals with his second place, 6.87 finish. Despite not qualifying, senior Jason Hollinger set a new PR with his great 7.05 run. 
  • Continuing in the 60m finals, Akabi-During set a new PR of 6.75 which was good for second overall. The time broke both Centennial Conference and Dickinson school records and currently sits as the sixth best in the division. 
  • Akabi-During broke yet another conference and school record in the 200m, reclaiming his Centennial record that was taken yesterday by a Johns Hopkins runner. He won the event with his quick 21.44 time that is his season best and the tenth best in Division III. Sophomore Darian Crim also set a new season best in the 200, running a quick 22.16 for 12th place. 
  • Crim continued in the 400m with a strong fifth-place finish, clocking a time of 48.94. The time his season best and is currently the 47th-best time in Division III. Right behind in sixth was senior Trevor Richwine, running a season-best time of 48.99 that is the 49th-best in the division. 

Distance
  • In the 800m, senior Matthew Gareau notched a strong 10th place, 1:56.23 finish to set a new PR. First-year Michael Dooley was not far behind in 14th, also setting a new PR of 1:57.08.
  • Junior Nathan Caldwell placed seventh overall in the 3000m, finishing in 8:38.47 to set a new PR. Right behind him was sophomore Luke Knestout with an eighth place, 8:38.89 performance for a new PR as well. 

Relay
  • Last but not least, the 4x400m A relay of Akabi-During, Richwine, Gareau, and Crim won with a new season best time of  3:17.12. The finish set new records in both the conference and school, and is currently the 13th-best in Division III. 

Up Next
The team will return next Friday, February 20 at the Bucknell Tune-Up in Lewisburg, Pa. before the Centennial Conference Championships the following week. Events on Friday will start at 5 p.m. at the Gerhard Fieldhouse.
