SAN JUAN, P.R. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team had eight different players find the back of the net on Tuesday morning, including a game-high four from first-year
Heidi Schmidt as the Red and White posted a 16-4 non-conference win over Ohio Wesleyan University at the Albergue Olympic Training Center.
First Quarter
- An early turnover caused by Ali Broome led to Eva Gardner potting the first goal of the day past Morgan Leeper.
- Over the next four minutes the Devils defense continued to be flawless as mistakes forced by Schmidt and McKenna Keefer resulted in markers for Quinn Foa and Schmidt (Grace Kelly assist) making it 3-0 with 7:12 to play.
- The Red and White extended the margin to 4-0 less than a minute later when Sage Whiteside ripped home a free-position chance.
- Dickinson would not allow a shot until the 9:01 mark when Brynna O'Brien shutdown Jules Kyle. However, 47-seconds later the Battling Bishops battled their way onto the scoreboard with Emma Reynolds tallying.
- The remainder of the period saw attempts from Carson Cerow, Alex Hackett and Schmidt go off the target, while offerings for Foa (Gardner assist) and Gardner (Abby Geary assist) found the net for a 6-1 advantage.
Second Quarter
- Schuyler Cerow had her hands all over the first three minutes of the frame as she popped the ball free from Kyle resulting in Caroline Cavendish finding Schmidt for another tally. She then claimed the ensuing draw and got the rock to Geary who connected with Whiteside making the score 8-1.
- Whiteside continued her mastery of the field forcing a giveaway from Brie Colangelo setting the stage for Meghan McDonald to play provider for Gardner, before winning the draw and hitting Crawford Fisher who linked up with Schmidt (10-1).
- Two minutes later Sam Frary pulled one back, but Geary answered after a draw victory by Jillian McNulty.
- Both keepers were called upon later in the period with O'Brien shutting down Lila Hall, while new goalie Autumn Reed had an answer for Cavendish.
- However, the scoring was not done as goals from Kelly and Maisy Lewerenz surrounded a strike for Colangelo leaving it 13-3 at halftime.
Third Quarter
- Lydia Mossi made her collegiate debut between the pipes starting the period and unfortunately was greeted quite rudely by Frary who stuck the ball past her.
- She then denied Riley Riordan which allowed Geary to setup Dani Estrada for the first of her Red Devil career. Whiteside then won the draw and found Kelly pushing the gap to 15-4.
- Mossi notched one more stop in the final minute against Kyle.
Fourth Quarter
- Mossi continued to be busy through the opening six minutes as she recorded three saves.
- Dickinson was kept without a shot until the eight minute mark when both Gardner and Schmidt had chances blocked down by the defense.Â
- However, Schmidt got a little revenge late in the period cashing in the final goal of the game for the 16-4 final.
