CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team had their two-game win streak come to an unfortunate halt on Saturday afternoon as the host Washington College picked up a 13-9 win over the Red and White in the Centennial Conference opener for both sides at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium.
First Quarter
- After the opening three minutes go by without a goal, Dickinson would take a 1-0 lead thanks to Quinn Foa beating Maddy Kissinger.
- Off the ensuing draw Mia Snellenburg knocked the ball away from Mac Grogan which led to a chance for Eva Gardner that was shutdown by Kissinger. However, at the other end Brynna O'Brien denied Elisabeth Braswell.
- The Shorewomen then posted seven of the next eight shots resulting in tallies by Piper Evans, Lexi Vennera and Grogan making it 3-1 through one.
Second Quarter
- Washington continued their run to start the period as Anna Wilson struck 2:13 in for a 4-1 edge.
- Gardner claimed the ensuing draw leading to chances for Crawford Fisher and Heidi Schmidt that did not find the net. Dickinson did not give up though with Sage Whiteside cashing in (4-2).
- The home side needed just over a minute to get the goal back, but Lexi Thaut responded with a free position strike to leave the gap at 5-3 with 6:18 left.
- A stop for O'Brien against Evans allowed the Devils to go back down the field and tally once again courtesy of Whiteside.Â
- However, Evans and Abby Geary traded markers over the final four minutes to leave the home side on top 6-5 at halftime.
Third Quarter
- Goals came fast as MaryCate Anson won the opening draw to give Grogan the ability to score inside the first minute, but a win from Schuyler Cerow resulted in Foa burying her second (7-6).Â
- Another stop for O'Brien with 2:11 gone presented Gardner the chance to level the score at 7-7.
- After Anna Wilson reclaimed the lead for WAC, Kissinger turned aside both Grace Kelly and Schmidt to keep it 8-7.
- Dickinson posted two more shots the remainder of the period with Kissinger stopping Gardner, but getting beat by Geary. Unfortunately, the hosts added three more tallies to take an 11-8 advantage into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
- Both keepers were tested early as O'Brien denied Mia Salvatierra on a free position chance, while Kissinger stoned both Gardner and Whiteside.
- Jillian McNulty got on the scoresheet 3:08 in when she setup Geary for the finish (11-9).
- Five minutes went by before the game saw its next goal with Wilson picking up another (12-9). That led to O'Brien being replaced in cage by Lydia Mossi. During her appearance she notched one stop as well as allowing the final goal of the game to Evans setting the 13-9 final.
