YORK, Pa. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team got multiple goals from the group of
Quinn Foa,
Bella Guckes,
Heidi Schmidt and
Sage Whiteside, but it would not be enough as the seventh-ranked York College of Pennsylvania held off the Red and White by a score of 15-11 at Kinsley Field.
First Quarter
- An early turnover caused by Ali Broome resulted in the Devils taking a 1-0 lead with Schmidt setting up Foa for the strike. However, not even a minute later the home side had the answer with Sydney Mentzer beating Brynna O'Brien.
- Over the next four minutes both Audrey Simoes and O'Brien recorded a stop, while each was solved once as Kiera McPhillips and Schmidt (Jillian McNulty assist) tallied for their respective sides.
- After Kate Feldman and Mentzer made it 4-2, Guckes setup Schmidt for the finish with 11:37 gone.
- Sofia Steel pushed the gap to 5-3, before Lexi Thaut claimed the ensuing draw control allowing Foa to link up with Guckes to trim the gap to one (5-4).
Second Quarter
- Lydia Mossi took over between the pipes to start the period and was immediately tested with Feldman putting it in the net (6-4).
- Eva Gardner was shutdown by Simoes, while at the other end Maddie Ross, Mentzer and Steel were all turned away by Mossi. Unfortunately, Krista Yarusso added another to the Spartans total at the 7:38 mark.
- A few minutes later Whiteside cashed in to trim one off the gap, but the duo of Leah Vacin and Steel tallied twice to stretch the advantage to 9-5.Â
- Schuyler Cerow collected the following draw which provided Grace Kelly the ability to notch the Devils sixth of the game (9-6).
Third Quarter
- Peyton VanDorpe became the third DC keeper of the game and watched her teammates try to strike again, but Schmidt was denied by Simoes.Â
- The pair of Yarusso and McPhillips made it 11-6 over five minutes into the frame.
- After two stops from VanDorpe against Steel and Yarusso, S. Cerow put a pass in the stick of Guckes who rippled the net beyond Simoes leaving the score at 11-7 going to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
- Dickinson needed two minutes to get themselves make in the game as Whiteside made it 11-8, before a turnover caused by McNulty allowed Guckes to bury the rock (11-9).Â
- Unfortunately, for Dickinson a save for Simoes on Schmidt resulted in the Spartans went on a four-goal run with tallies coming from McPhillips (2), Mentzer and Ross extending the advantage to 15-9 with nine minutes left.
- Foa and Whiteside posted the final two markers of the game to set the 15-11 final.
