LANCASTER, Pa. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team fell behind 6-2 after 15 minutes on Saturday afternoon and could never dig all the way out as the host Franklin and Marshall College picked up a 13-7 Centennial Conference victory at Shadek Stadium. The Red and White were led on the day by two goals each from
Quinn Foa and
Grace Kelly.
First Quarter
- The home side came out on first recording the first five shots of the game and getting three goals during that time.
- Turnovers caused by Carson Cerow and Crawford Fisher led to the Devils first tally of the day from Foa off a feed by Kelly.Â
- Back-to-back stops for Sara DiGiovanni against both Heidi Schmidt and Cerow resulted in markers for Devyn Crone and Myranda Beebe to make it 5-1 with 5:17 left.Â
- Peyton VanDorpe notched a save against Rose Dunne two minutes later, but Lauren Pittman would put a shot into the next for the 6-1 edge. However, Lexi Thaut won the ensuing draw allowing Schmidt to strike with 18 seconds to play (6-2).
Second Quarter
- Another stop by VanDorpe in the opening minute set the stage for Eva Gardner to trim one off the gap.
- F&M followed by posting six of the next seven shots leading to three more markers extending the advantage to 9-3 at the 6:35 mark.
- Consecutive draw controls won by Sage Whiteside saw Whiteside and Goa each bag a goal cutting the deficit to 9-5.
- The two sides shared the final eight shots with Foa, Gardner and Schmidt all forcing stops out of DiGiovanni.Â
Third Quarter
- After VanDorpe shut the door on Sophie Harris, DiGiovanni denied Kelly twice before she finally put the ball past the Diplomats keeper with 9:11 left.
- Two minutes later the Devils were back on the attack with DiGiovanni knocking away chances from Foa and Schmidt, while Ali Broome fired one off target.Â
- Dickinson's defense continued to be strong with the trio of Jillian McNulty, Fisher and VanDorpe each forcing an F&M giveaway, before Pittman was able to get into the attack zone and put a shot by VanDorpe giving the hosts a 10-6 lead.
Fourth Quarter
- Keepers were sharp to start DiGiovanni turning away Foa, Kelly and Whiteside, while VanDorpe stopped Pittman.Â
- Strikes from Harris and Pittman surrounded a marker by Kelly (Schmidt assist) to leave the gap at five (12-7). Unfortunately, for the visitors Beebe added one more with just under five minutes to play setting the 13-7 final.
