CARLISLE, Pa. - First-Year attacker
Heidi Schmidt recorded a hat trick within the first five minutes of Wednesday's Centennial Conference home tilt against 11th-ranked Gettysburg College, but it was the Bullets who used five goal fourth period to power their way to a 16-9 win at Biddle Field.
First Quarter
- Dickinson needed only 32 seconds for Abby Geary to setup Schmidt for the finish past Marin McGuire.
- The Bullets then answered with two straight from Nina Marra and Maddie Passarello to take a 2-1 edge with 12:35 left.Â
- A draw control win for Crawford Fisher led to a tally for Schmidt, before Sage Whiteside won the ensuing draw allowing Schmidt to ultimately connect with Kelly making it 3-2 with not even four minutes off the clock.Â
- Two minutes later the Red and White extended the scoring run to four in a row with Schmidt finishing her hat trick and Geary burying the rock for a 5-2 edge.
- Consecutive markers by Julia Daly trimmed the gap to just one (5-4) at the 8:19 mark.
- Quinn Foa and Jillian McNulty each added shots for the Devils over the rest of the period, but neither was able to test McGuire.
Second Quarter
- The Bullets used the first five minutes to fire away at the DC cage as they recorded four shots, but Peyton VanDorpe was up to the task making four stops.
- Dickinson then found some offensive flow with Lexi Thaut, Schmidt and Whiteside combining for five attempts, unfortunately, McGuire had the answer for three of them.
- Her final save during that stretch sent the visitors on a sprint the other way resulting in Riley D'Entremont knotting the score (5-5) with seven minutes to play.
- Schmidt attempted to respond immediately, but McGuire denied both her and Geary. However, Whiteside would cash in eventually to reclaim the 6-5 advantage.Â
- Gettysburg posted four of the final five shots finding the twine on two of them thanks to D'Entremont grabbing a slim 7-6 halftime edge.
Third Quarter
- The visitors added onto their lead inside the opening three minutes with Sarah Scollin picking up a pair (9-6).Â
- Kelly pulled one back off a nice feed from Carson Cerow, but Riley Kenrick got it back just over two minutes later (10-7).Â
- After VanDorpe put up a wall against D'Entremont, Dickinson looked like they would have a chance to once again get within two, but a giveaway caused by Camry Epstein allowed Daly to notch another goal.
- A foul called against Epstein with a little more than a minute to play let Foa ripple the net on a free-position chance to make it 11-8 heading to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
- Kali McDonnell extended the margin to 12-8 at the 2:48 mark, before offerings from Eva Gardner, Kelly, McNulty and Schmidt forced three more stops out of McGuire.
- The Bullets would ride that momentum into another strike this time from Passarello to push it out to 13-8.Â
- Three minutes later, McGuire turned aside Schmidt once again. However, Gardner was there to stash the ball to the back of the net (13-9).
- Unfortunately, for the Red and White the visitors closed out on a three-goal run to set the 16-9 final.
