ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team fell behind 5-0 after the first 15 minutes on Wednesday afternoon and were not able to dig their way totally out as Muhlenberg College picked up the 15-7 conference victory at Jeff Morris Field.
Heidi Schmidt led the way on the day for the Red and White with three goals.
First Quarter
- Both keepers were tested early as Peyton VanDorpe turned away Kim Curcio, while Meaghan Haughney denied Sage Whiteside within the first two minutes.
- The home side tallied the ensuing four shots with VanDorpe notching one stop, but Emma Youngling also found the back of the net for the first of the game.
- Quinn Foa and Eva Gardner each posted a chance for the the Devils which missed the mark allowing the Mules to hold onto their slim 1-0 edge.Â
- Unfortunately, for Dickinson the hosts embarked on a four-goal run to end the period to take a 5-0 lead into the second.
Second Quarter
- Just over a minute in the Devils got their first goal of the day as Mal Cavanagh knocked the ball away from Curcio leading to Schmidt striking.
- Three minutes later Danielle Sautner and Youngling tallied less than a minute apart to extend the advantage to 7-1 with 10:51 to go.
- A stop by VanDorpe against Alyssa Hartnett set the stage for Schmidt's second to trim it down to 7-2. However, after Abba Diglio claimed the ensuing draw she got the ball ahead for Halina Homiak who found Hartnett for the 8-2 edge at the 7:36 mark.
- Dickinson then posted the next four shots courtesy of Abby Geary, Grace Kelly and Lexi Thaut resulting in two stops for Haughney along with a goal from Kelly.
- Haughney prevented the Red and White from getting any closer prior to the break as she turned aside both Crawford Fisher and Gardner.
Third Quarter
- The Devils came out of the break firing away with Schmidt and Whiteside combining for four shots ending up in a pair of Haughney stops as well as a marker from Schmidt.Â
- Once again though the Mules had an answer as Hartnett cashed in off a draw win from Homiak to make it 9-4. A few minutes later a giveaway by Homiak allowed Ali Broome to get the rock up to Alex Hackett for the finish (9-5).
- Samantha Kalinoglu posted the final marker of the period to give MC the 10-5 lead with a quarter to play.
Fourth Quarter
- Dickinson tried to cut into the deficit early on as Caroline Cavendish and Geary asked questions of Haughney, but she was up to the task.
- Despite the Devils best efforts to get back into the game it would be the hosts who struck on their next three attempts to stretch margin to 13-5 with 7:25 gone.
- The teams shared the remaining four goals of the game with Gardner and Geary tallying for the Red and White, while Annalisa Bio and Youngling scored for the Mules to set the 15-7 final.
