CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Coming off a nice home conference win over Muhlenberg College on Friday, the Dickinson baseball team was back in action on Saturday afternoon visiting conference foe Washington College. Unfortunately, for the Red and White the Shoremen used a strong late game push to take game one 11-1, before notching a 16-15 extra inning win in game two.
Game One
Final Score: Shoremen 11, DEVILS 1 (F/8)
Team Records: Dickinson (16-9, 2-3 CC) | Washington (15-12, 3-2 CC)
Pitching Decision: W - Michael Lewis (3-1) | L -
Sam Bliss (0-2)
Inside the Game
- Pitching was strong early on as both Michael Lewis and Sam Bliss were able to keep the offenses off balance over the first two.
- In the third, after Dickinson went down in order Washington used three straight singles to load the bags with one down. Brett Connolly then came up with an RBI groundout, before Chase Ruppel ripped a two-run double making it 3-0 thru three.
- Singles for Will Ferris and Kyle Bailey tried to give DC a chance to get right back into the game, but a fly out and strikeout ended threat. The Devils would strike though in the fifth as a Miguel Reich single and an error allowing Matt Conforti to reach had men on the corners with two down. That brought Dylan Posencheg to the box and he worked a walk and all ball four the pitch skipped away from the catcher letting Reich hustle home (3-1). Bliss then provided a needed shutdown inning to keep the deficit at just two entering the sixth.
- It stayed 3-1 until the last of the seventh when two errors and a bunt single filled the bags for Drew Kinsey. He collected a sacrifice fly to right, before Connolly delivered a two-run single pushing it out to 6-1. Bliss was then lifted for Zander Leckszas who allowed one to cross, before getting Pete Kokinis to ground out to third for the final out. The Shoremen would then use four hits in the eighth to help them push four more across to extend the lead to ten (11-1) resulting in the run rule ending the game.

Inside the Game
- Dickinson got things going early against starter Matt Corda as Posencheg led the game off with a solo blast to left-center. Ferris would walk and Bailey singled to have men at the corners with one gone. Following a popout by Luke Gartland, Reich deposited a three-run bomb over the left-center field wall making it 4-0 heading to the home half. Austin Buzza got the ball for the Red and White and allowed a solo shot to Ruppel leaving the margin at three going to the second.
- A single by Ben Milligan and free pass to Posencheg signaled the end of the game for Corda as Logan Ruga entered. He gave up an RBI double to Ferris, before plunking the next two he faced to force one home. Reich then added to his big game with a two-run single for the 8-1 advantage. However, once again the Shoremen had an answer against Buzza using four hits, including a pair of home runs to plate five closing within 8-6.
- The scoring just kept on coming into the third as singles for Milligan and Posencheg coupled with an error scored one. Johnny Bruno then followed with a three-run bomb to left-center. A walk to Bailey and a hit batter of Gartland gave way to RBIs from both Reich and Freeman Hunt to make it 14-6. The home-half saw the Shoremen chip one off the gap three batters in leading to Buzza being replaced by Glen Cantalupo Jr. Kinsey notched a two-run single and Connolly collected a two-run jack to right cutting it down to 14-11 going to the fourth.
- Nico DiGrazio went to the bump for WAC and watched Posencheg blast his second homer of the game to left-center once again. Cantalupo Jr. finally put together a shutdown frame retiring the hosts in order.
- Two singles and a two-bagger resulted in WAC getting one back in the fifth, before a hit batter and Bruno RBI double during the sixth pushed DC up four (16-12).
- Dickinson maintained that advantage until the last of the seventh when Ryan Stover entered the game and issued two walks along with hitting a batter to fill the cushions. Michael Niszczak was then summoned from the pen and gave up a two-run single to Reese Hirsh, a bases loaded free pass to Brady Wozniak and watched a pass ball lead to the tying run coming home.
- Neither team could put together a rally over the remainder of regulation as the game went to the tenth locked at 16. Unfortunately, for DC they would go "three up, three down" with their chance. Then, in the home-half back-to-back doubles for Kinsey and Connolly led to the winning run.
