Summer Check-In
Where are you working/interning this summer? Position, Company and Location?
Sales Intern; TransPerfect Translations International Inc.; Philadelphia, PA
Please describe your day-to-day responsibilities in this position.
On a day-to-day basis, I support our business development and sales efforts by working closely with the sales team to identify and pursue new opportunities. My responsibilities include researching and qualifying potential leads, compiling background information on prospective clients, and sending outreach emails to initiate conversations and schedule follow-ups. I also help maintain accurate records of outreach and pipeline activity, ensuring the team has organized, up-to-date information as opportunities progress.
What made this experience appealing to you?
This experience was especially appealing to me for two reasons. First, it gave me the opportunity to work with and learn from a Dickinson Golf alumnus. I was able to connect with Dan Emery ’05 through our shared Dickinson Golf background, and that relationship played a major role in making this internship possible. Second, the role aligns closely with my International Business and Management major. Because TransPerfect is a global language and business solutions firm, the work exposes me to how international companies operate and grow, making it a great fit both professionally and academically.
How does this experience relate to your career or life aspirations? What are you looking to personally get out of it?
In terms of my career goals, this internship provides direct exposure into sales and business development of a global company. What appeals to me most is that it’s a performance-driven environment where hard work and results translate into real opportunity and advancement. It’s also been valuable to learn directly from sales professionals who have built successful careers in this industry. Learning their expectations, routines, and standards has given me a clearer picture of what it takes to succeed. I know that these experiences will be meaningful as I think about my next steps after graduation.
How has your athletics career prepared you for this role?
My athletic career has helped prepare me for this role tremendously. Playing a sport teaches you the important lesson of how to be a good team member and work well with others. Having years of experience having other people depend on my performance has prepared me for the pressure and expectations that come with working in sales. Golf puts you around new people all the time, so you learn how to build rapport quickly and carry yourself professionally. This is something that I have been able to leverage during my time at TransPerfect.
Looking forward to this season, what are you most excited about?
I am most excited to get back to campus and compete alongside my teammates. Our team had a great spring season last year, and I am excited to build on that momentum and see where it can take us.
Is there anything else you are looking forward to this summer outside of this experience?
I look forward to further exploring the Philadelphia area and getting to spend time at Lake Gaston with friends and family before getting back to campus.
