CARLISLE, Pa. - The 20th-ranked Dickinson field hockey battled valiantly for 60 minutes, but were unfortunately not able to find the back of the cage as the 17th-ranked University of Lynchburg escaped the Biddle Field Complex with a 2-0 non-conference victory.
First Quarter
- It would take nearly five minutes to see both the first shot and first goal as Sofia Boon found some space on the left side of the attack area and fired a shot past DC keeper Arden Cook for the 1-0 lead.
- Two minutes later the Red Devils would have their first chances of the contest with both Megan McClure and Nicole Uebele being denied by Shay Schoones.
- Boon had one final opportunity to extend the lead, but her attempt was knocked down by the backline.
Second Quarter
- Early pressure came from the Hornets as they earned two penalty corners in the first minute, which resulted in just one shot as Khanyisile Mzizi was snuffed out by the defense.
- Following a foul against the visitors, Raegan Carty and Uebele tested Schoones unfortunately neither was able to get into the cage.
- In the 22nd minute, Callie Short ripped one wide of goal, before consecutive corners played in by Gillian Rosenstock resulted in shots for her and Erin Liggio that were beaten aside by Schoones which ended the half.
Third Quarter
- Dickinson continued to ask questions of the Lynchburg defense early on with Rosenstock firing at Schoones who once again was up to the task inside the first three minutes.
- The Red and White would earn corners in minutes 34 and 40 that were inserted by Rosenstock and Ella Ledenko leading to one shot that was stopped by Schoones.
- With McClure serving a two-minute suspension late in the period, it was the home side that was on the attack with Liggio having an attempt saved by Schoones.
Fourth Quarter
- The Hornets made it 2-0 just 66-seconds in when Allie Freeman setup Taylor Secrist for the finish past Cook.
- Over the ensuing three minutes the Red and White earned two more corners, but Schoones shutdown the trio of Emmy Chazen, Liggio and Uebele.
- Dickinson continued to press on the attack, however Schoones was always there to close the door stopping both Carty and Rosenstock to finish off the shutout.
