WINCHESTER, Va. - The Dickinson field hockey team mounted a late fourth quarter charge striking twice inside the final ten minutes, but unfortunately it would not be enough as the 20th-ranked Shenandoah University Hornets held on for a 3-2 non-conference win on Wednesday night at Aikens Stadium.
First Quarter
- Dickinson had the early pressure earning four penalty corners within the first five minutes resulting in two shots with Alexandra Hockwitt being shutdown by Cassidy Alexander, while Gillian Rosenstock had her attempt knocked down by the defense.
- Then in the seventh minute, following a shot from Camryn DeLeva that was stopped by Arden Cook, the Red and White were whistled for a foul in the circle leading to a penalty stroke. DeLeva stepped up, but she missed the target to end the quarter scoreless.
Second Quarter
- Just over a minute in Dickinson had a great opportunity to find the opening goal as Emily Engle was issued a green card, unfortunately during the two minute suspension the Devils were not able to tally a shot.
- Five minutes later the home side did strike with Ava Fields connecting with Reagan Flory off a corner, which led to a pass coming back to Fields who beat Cook.
- Caroline Kirkpatrick was denied by Alexander to end the half and keep DC down 1-0.
Third Quarter
- Shenandoah recorded the only shot of the period and it would find the net courtesy of Flory off the feed from Kierney Weigle.
- Dickinson's best chance came in the 37th-minute as Alex Hackett inserted a penalty corner, but the Red and White could not post a shot.
Fourth Quarter
- The hosts appeared to extend the lead to three with 1:13 gone as a blast by Ellie Quinn eluded Cook. However, Ella Ledenko was able to sweep the ball off the line.
- Following a stop by Cook against Weigle, DeLeva collected the ball and found Fields for her second of the night.
- Dickinson did not give up the fight though as Nicole Uebele and Megan McClure both bested Alexander in a four-minute window to cut the deficit down to 3-2.
- With just over a minute left Rosenstock inserted a corner, but the visitors could not post a shot ending the game.
