Early Offense Powers Devils Past Hornets

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's soccer got goals from Roan Harrington and Mika Rafidimahavonjy within the opening ten minutes, before adding a 50th-minute tally for Josh Dozier en route to a 3-2 non-conference home win over Shenandoah University on Wednesday night at Miller Memorial Field.

First Half
  • Dickinson made the first shot of the game count as a foul in the box by Hatim Elkhasouani led to a DC penalty kick within the first five minutes. Harrington stepped up to the spot and sent Aidan King-Miller the wrong way for a 1-0 lead.
  • Off the ensuing kickoff Shenandoah entered the attacking third and got two quick chances with Nick Mattiace being denied by Gavin Marr, while Elkhasouani pinged the crossbar.
  • Less than a minute later the Red and White made it 2-0 when Westin Fryberger sent a cross in from the left wing to Rafidimahavonjy who hit it on the volley past King-Miller.
  • A fastbreak half continued with Josh Dozier, Nicholas Dwamena, Maxim Temple, Fryberger and Harrington all recording shots and forcing two saves from the keeper.
  • The Hornets went flying back down the other end and posted five shots of their own calling upon Marr once to keep it 2-0 at the half-hour mark.
  • Shenandoah cut the margin to 2-1 just prior to halftime thanks to a finish by Maclain Szulborski.
Second Half
  • For the second straight period the Devils hit the back of the net with the first shot when Dozier recovered a loose ball just inside the box and stuck a shot up in the corner of the net at the 49:13 mark.
  • In the 66th-minute, Dickinson had a chance to add to their advantage, but Temple was denied by King-Miller.
  • Shenandoah would use that to seize a little momentum when a foul on Nicolas Fonseca allowed Jarbin Rodriguez to slip a free kick just inside Marr's post to make it 3-2 in the 68th.
  • From minutes 73 to 79 things would get quite chippy with the two teams combining for five yellow cards.
  • Within the final ten minutes the Hornets tallied three shots, but only tested Marr once as he denied Noah Montoya to close out the win.
